TUDOR NECULA: Untitled
acrylic on canvas, 90 x 70 cm, 2025

Tudor Necula’s paintings (tudor2002_) summon a surreal landscape where the absurd and the sacred intertwine, transforming familiar childhood symbols into uncanny visions. Executed with airbrushed acrylics, his works possess the soft gradients and artificial luminosity of digital imagery, yet their atmosphere is charged with psychological unease. In one image, a liquefied skull-like form rises from a textured pedestal, its contours dissolving into a dreamlike mountain backdrop, while flickering flames puncture the horizon like fragile memories. In another, a marble- like figure with cartoonish eyes and a red nose sits at a wooden table, both playful and tragic, a creature seemingly caught between consciousness and inanimation. These compositions suggest a world suspended between nostalgia and decay, where innocence is refracted through irony and digital alienation. Necula’s imagery speaks of generational sensibility: a space where anxiety and humor coexist, and where identity, filtered through screens and simulations, re-emerges as a sculpted hallucination of the self.
