along with hundreds of carpets, cars and coins! The Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum (FBQMuseum) is a non-profit private museum foundation of public interest, it has been created on the initiative of its patron HE Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, to house and manage his private collection, donated to the non-profit foundation, now responsible for its management and enhancement. The colle

ction was developed throughout decades of dedicated and enthusiastic collecting of a diverse and eclectic body of works, spanning several areas of interest of great museological value and public appeal. FBQMuseum Houses a generic and eclectic collection at its Samariyya location, at a culture estate open to public since 1998. A branch of FBQMuseums, the Carpet Museum holds a vast collection at its Marriot Marquis City Centre Doha location, open to public since 2014. Both museum sites are oriented towards developing educational public programs designed to enhance knowledge and sharing the wonders of the vast collections with our local community, regional and international visitors. FBQMuseum is a people oriented institution, and we deliver its programs following an object-based teaching and learning philosophy. In 2010, the museum was selected by the Ministry of Art, Culture and Heritage as one of Qatar's cultural landmarks as part of the 'Qatar Capital of Culture' activities. The museum's affiliations span an array of international institutions and we have been dedicated to delivering entertainment based, engaging displays of the marvels collected by an extraordinary man.

The hands that built Qatar’s maritime legacy.

From pearl diving expeditions to trade journeys across the Gulf, traditional dhow crews relied on skill, endurance, and teamwork to navigate the sea. Every rope tied, sail raised, and net cast played a role in sustaining coastal communities for generations.

At FBQ Museum, scenes like this offer a glimpse into the daily lives of the sailors and craftsmen whose knowledge shaped Qatar’s relationship with the sea and helped preserve a rich maritime heritage.

What part of Qatar’s seafaring history fascinates you most? ⛵

A masterpiece of Qajar craftsmanship, this remarkable carpet was commissioned by tribal chief Ali Akbar Khan Sharif Al-Molk in 19th-century Iran. Rich in symbolism and intricate detail, it reflects a period when textiles served as powerful expressions of status, identity, and authority.

At its centre stands the iconic Lion and Sun motif — a symbol closely associated with monarchy, strength, and national identity during the Qajar era. Surrounding it are layers of floral ornamentation, portraiture, calligraphy, and scenes from daily life, each woven with purpose and meaning.

From royal symbolism to masterful artistry, every thread tells a story of power, culture, and heritage preserved through generations.

Built from limestone, shaped by time. 🏛️

Crafted from locally sourced limestone, this historic tower reflects the resourcefulness of traditional architecture in Qatar. Chosen for its durability and natural insulation, limestone played a key role in the construction of forts, watchtowers, and homes across the region, helping communities adapt to the harsh desert climate.

Back to school looked a little different in 20th century Qatar. 📚

This photograph captures a moment inside a Qatari boys’ schoolyard, reflecting a time when gender-segregated education was the norm across the region.

Beyond the classroom, spaces like these became where students connected, played, and built everyday memories together.

Images like this preserve more than a school day — they offer a glimpse into Qatar’s social and educational history during a rapidly changing era.
