As the FIFA World Cup brings the world together once again, it also offers an opportunity to reflect on the people and institutions that have shaped Qatar’s sporting legacy and elevated its presence on the world stage.

For Abdullah Al Mulla, sport has never stood apart from culture. It is a powerful way to connect people, preserve memory, and tell the story of a nation whose ambition continues to reach far beyond its borders.

Through his work at 321 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, he helps bring this legacy closer to the public, celebrating sporting history, Olympic achievement, and Qatar’s contributions to the regional and global sports landscape.

في الوقت الذي يجمع فيه كأس العالم لكرة القدم العالم من جديد، تبرز فرصة للاحتفاء بالأشخاص والمؤسسات الذين أسهموا في تشكيل الإرث الرياضي لدولة قطر وتعزيز حضورها على الساحة العالمية.

For Ehab Mohammed, the continued exploration of heritage and culture is what allows the unique experience of Qatar Museums to reach beyond its walls and into homes across Qatar.

Experiences like these are carried forward through work that often goes unseen, making knowledge available and keeping culture within reach of those who seek it.

At the Museum of Islamic Art library, Abdallah Al Mannai has enriched cultural knowledge and references for the community. Through his work, he creates moments that draw children into these spaces, where a connection begins, one that stays with them and shapes how future generations engage with culture.

يرى إيهاب محمد أن الاطلاع المستمر على التراث والثقافة هو ما يثري تجربة متاحف قطر ويجعلها أقرب إلى المجتمع، حتى تجد مكانها في كل بيت.

وغالباً ما يتحقق ذلك من خلال أدوار لا تظهر للعلن، تتيح المعرفة وتُبقي الثقافة قريبة ممن يسعون إليها.

Building cultural institutions goes beyond preserving the past. It is about carrying heritage forward and creating the conditions for culture, talent, and new ideas to take shape.

This International Museum Day, we celebrate Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Museums, who has helped protect Qatar’s heritage, keep its stories visible, and strengthen a cultural ecosystem where creative talent can find its place and grow.

His recent election as President of ICOM Arab for the 2025–2028 term reflects Qatar’s growing role in the museum landscape and the importance of cultural institutions in carrying heritage forward.
