Spotify reveals significant changes to the process for distributing royalties to artists. These new guidelines will come into effect from the first quarter of 2024 and address a widely debated issue: the distribution of earnings based on the number of plays of a track on the streaming platform.

The main change is the introduction of a minimum annual limit for the transfer of royalties: 1,000 streams. Spotify argues that demonetizing the pre-artist chain is a justifiable strategy. According to the platform, the amounts allocated to artists before reaching 1,000 streams are often not redeemable, as distributors require a minimum amount for withdrawal and, consequently, the transfer of resources.
