Be aware as you begin this journey: most people don’t want you to change. They fear it. They’ll see betrayal where they could have found inspiration.

Even your closest friends and family are often more loyal to the tribe than to you.
That will sting when you discover it. Keep going anyway.

Finished this one last night. Remembering being camped along the Colorado River — halfway through an 8-day rafting trip for artists I used to run every year for 14 years.
The Geology in the Canyon still amazes me after all these years. So interesting.

Six paintings finished and my living room's turned into overflow storage. Canyon work and Porto work both, stacked against the TV stand because I've run out of wall space in the studio.

"Morning Breaks Through," 50x70cm

The light moves fast along the Colorado as it cuts through the Grand Canyon. I camped in this spot several times over the years, back when I ran Artist Expeditions down the river for fourteen years. It still surprises me how quickly the color changes in there, especially early and late in the day — you paint fast or you lose it.

Fresh off the easel. Late light in the canyon, that purple haze up top burning down into red rock, the river holding still enough to reflect it all back.

Went back into this one. Porto rooftops at night, looking down toward the bridge — I painted it a while back, but the light wasn't earning its keep.

Some paintings aren't done when you sign them the first time.
