My paintings are reflections and witnesses of my multicultural nomad life experience. I left my native country more than 20 years ago and, since then, I have had the unique opportunity to live all over the world. All the wonderful people I met and cultures I embraced along the way shaped me in who I am. I also got to understand that I will never find a definite version of myself, because the state

of permanent reinvention is the only constant in my being. This continuous change and reinvention, and the reflective process associated with it, is what you can experience through my work

2025 taught me a lot: trust the process, talk to your work, show up anyway… and that clarity has a habit of arriving fashionably late—usually after the work is done.
Studio chaos, exhibitions, travels, amazing people, and delayed clarity — would do it all again.
On to 2026 with curiosity, gratitude, and a slightly clearer head (hopefully).

A wonderful visit and conversation at Geographies of a Wandering Soul in the Pousada Mosteiro de Guimarães. With the non-stop rain outside, it felt extra cozy to sit by the fire, coffee in hand, and enjoy the best company. Thank you for the visit, Álvaro and Natália ☕️✨
It truly is the best weekend plan — to wander through the exhibition while exploring this remarkable 12th-century building, where you’ll be welcomed with true Portuguese hospitality.

As a r e n a s is coming to an end tomorrow at the beautiful space of .pt , I want to share how thankful I am to all the wonderful people that made this project possible -and fun!

I am particularly grateful to my dear friend , who came from Basel to curate the show, and give it her magic touch. She knows my work well, and even I can’t describe it the way she does :

“ In a world that demands speed, Silvia Salvagno’s exhibition invites us on an intimate journey where change doesn’t disrupt, but instead transforms. This proposal suggests a gradual immersion in space, from the tangible and concrete, such as sand—witness to memory and the tides—to the fluid, introspective, and abstract lines depicted by the pigments, a result achieved through willpower and respect for the necessary waiting time. But here, change and waiting are not a loss.
They are a way of starting over. Through these works, the artist doesn’t seek to retain the ephemeral but rather to allow it to flow meaningfully. She reminds us that change isn’t rupture, but rather possibility. And that by pausing, we can perceive the essential: the poetry of the instant and the subtle power of what is transformed.”

Thank you Inés for being part of this journey!

BEHIND THE SCENES
Have you ever wondered what happens in the studio — from the very first spark of an idea to the painting that eventually finds its home on your favorite wall? 🎨

For ARENAS, I wanted to share not only the finished works but also the journey behind them. That’s why I brought along some of my preparatory sketches, notes, and materials — fragments of the process that shaped the paintings. 🌊🖌️

For each work I sell, I like to gift the collector one sketch, so they can take home a part of the creative process along with the painting — a thread connecting the beginning to the finished piece.

And since so many of you have inquired about my sketchbook, together with the talented Mark Tomaras we created a series of prints from its pages — something you can take home or gift a friend. ✨📖

It’s a glimpse into the dialogue between thought, gesture, and canvas — the hidden layers that make each piece alive.

Come check all that out at Galeria Catapulta .pt in this week!

WORDS OF THE IN-BETWEEN – PALABRAS DE LA ESPERA - installation
Gold embroidery on scrap fabric, sewn onto rag paper (approximately 15cm x 21cm), gold thread, sand, rocks.

Working with water-based media requires patience and kindness. You can’t rush the process. Throughout the many layers of these works, there are periods of time when you simply wait. You wait for the water and pigments to work their magic, watching them dance on the canvas or paper. You wait for the paint to settle until it’s ready to receive yet another layer. You wait until you are prepared to continue creating with the materials or decide it’s time to step back because your work is finished.

During those waiting times and since I began working on what is now the a r e n a s collection, I did a lot of embroidery on scraps of fabric or paper—those same scraps I have been using to cover tables or floors in my studio. At a certain point, I found myself mainly embroidering words in Spanish—my native language—that, for different reasons, had special meanings during my process of settling into a new place, learning a new language, and getting to know a new culture. They served as roots keeping me grounded amid significant changes. As days and months passed, the collection of words continued to grow, and I am sharing them for the first time in this installation, which was explicitly designed for this exhibition. They are like a journal I kept during the last two years of working on
a r e n a s.

Showing at .pt , L26 until 04/10.

IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU

a r e n a s opening night last Saturday was so special, and I can’t thank you enough for being there. My work wouldn’t mean anything without the people who come, share their thoughts, and create those connections with my work. 💛

The exhibition is open until 02/10 — I’d love for you to come by and keep the conversation going.
