Primavera / in bloom
This is a mural I did this spring on the primary school of Meruge. It’s a buzz because I can see it from my house, so it’s like my flag or checkpoint to myself in life.
I’ve always had the idea of a kid playing forget me knots as a cool concept for a painting. Caught up in fantasies of the mind as he pulls the petals off a daisy one by one, whispering ‘she loves me, she loves me not’ that giddy feeling when you have a crush, that fresh sense of optimism in the air with the spring energy, life and colours are popping for the first time in the new year and life feels good.
The kid in the picture is a dreamer, excited in lust. His watermelon helmet with the arrow is a knod to a band I listened to growing up, Skid Row and the song Big Guns “I know that like is a battle and love is war”
The Crash Bandicoot mask symbolises a childhood of mine spent on a PlayStation, to wear the mask in the game you become invincible, but to play with love is to be vulnerable, so you have to take off the mask and just be the beautiful flawed unique little self you are.
The Robin represents a friend that has passed to the other side that comes back to visit from time to time, his name is Peter.
A Blue Tit as I think it’s my favourite bird, blue and yellow is one of my favourite combos of colour.
Cherry blossoms are the arrival of spring and the new year coming into bloom, the sign of a new cycle has begun.
The bee is the pollinator of ideas, an important cog in the large machine, another sign the seasons are changing.
There’s also some other things sprinkled in there, like the letters H and J that I put in all my murals to represent my two sisters.
Thank you again to for asking me to paint your walls. You make me feel very welcome and happy. X
