Summer has arrived!

The garden is bursting with vibrant blooms, and the greens are still so beautifully lush.

I wanted to share a little bit of this summer colour palette with you today—both fresh from the garden and captured in the details of my paintings.

I hope that you enjoy these uplifting colours.

Continuing from last week’s post, here is another before-and-after sequence!

This painting has been sitting quietly in my studio for almost a year, ever since I returned from a wonderful visit to Coimbra. I always felt that it wasn't quite finished.

Looking at it recently with fresh eyes, I realized that I wasn't happy with the composition. Everything was just a bit too centred. To fix that, I added more light to the top right corner and carried those vibrant yellow areas all the way down to the bottom left. To me it feels so much more dynamic and interesting now!

From time to time, it is so good to let things rest for a while. When you return with fresh eyes, new solutions have a way of revealing themselves.

What do you think of the transformation?

Following up on my last post about having my dear friend and fellow artist Lindsey Jayne Cole here with me... we truly had the most fruitful week inspiring each other in the atelier!

Because Lindsey was actually my art teacher many years ago, it was a wonderful opportunity to run a couple of my paintings past her to get some fresh eyes and honest advice.

This painting was one of them.
I painted this small mixed media canvas at the beginning of this year and shared it here back in March. But to be honest, it never felt quite ready to me; something just felt slightly off. After talking it through with Lindsey, I decided to change the top left corner to create a bit more "quiet space" for the eyes to rest. I also added a layer of neon pink to each of the little pearls. Now they really stand out, and the whole piece feels perfectly balanced!

I’m finally so happy with it, and as soon as I decide on the perfect title, I’ll be adding it to my website portfolio.

Sometimes we just need to step back and look at a situation with a fresh perspective. If we have a true friend who can give us honest, gentle guidance, we are incredibly blessed.
Wishing you all a friend like this in your life! 💕

What a fantastic week I had last week!

My friend and art teacher, Lindsey Jayne Cole came for a visit and we had the absolute best time.

It was a week filled with lots of laughter, catching up, enjoying the gorgeous weather, and - needless to say - lots of painting! 🎨

I’ll be sharing a little more detail about what we got up to in this week’s newsletter.

Art with a Heart: A True Team Effort! ❤️

Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of handing over this piece to a very kind lady who made a generous donation to support my chosen charity, StreetLife Animal Sterilisation Programme.
Today, I am so excited to share exactly how that donation has been used to change a life:

Earlier this year, the owner of three dogs sadly passed away. While the dogs had been well cared for, they suddenly found themselves without a home. Luckily, they were taken into the wonderful care of Benafim Dogs Rescue.

Apollo was the youngest of the three dogs.
To ensure a safe and happy future, animal shelters sterilize dogs before they are put up for adoption. Thanks to this donation, we were able to cover that cost for him!

I am absolutely thrilled that my artwork could support both of my chosen charities in this way. It was a true team effort, and it comes with the loveliest happy ending: Apollo has found a loving forever home, started a whole new life, and is now named Knox!

In my upcoming newsletter, I’ll be sharing a photo of this piece beautifully displayed by its new owner.

Today was a truly good day for me!

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of handing over this charity piece to a very kind lady who donated to support the StreetLife Animal Sterilisation Programme.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting incredible people through my work, and many of those connections have blossomed into genuine friendships.

At the end of the day, that is what means the most to me -connecting with people through my art.

I’ll be sharing a success story about how this piece of wood has made a difference once the donation is processed. In the meantime, I’ve included a photo of the second piece in the set, which is still available!

The end of my 3-year monthly charity series!!

As I mentioned last week, today I’m revealing the very last piece of this regular monthly series. It feels like the perfect way to round off this chapter.
I’ve gone back to the garden for this one, choosing another piece of decayed wood. After treating it with wood hardener, I built up layers of acrylic and incorporated some "treasures" I found outside.

The center of the piece features a group of feathers suspended from an old metal chain I discovered in the garden, which I’ve paired with twine and a copper-toned strip of paper.

Because of the delicate mixed media, it’s definitely an indoor piece - though it would look lovely under a terrace roof.

Note: This piece is already reserved, but I wanted to share it as the final note in this 3-year journey.

As I move forward, I’ll still be posting charity art works a few times a year on a more irregular basis, giving the project a bit more room to breathe. Thank you for being part of this journey with me and for helping me support StreetLife Animal Sterilisation Programme and Benafim Dogs Rescue!

Stay tuned for occasional charity paintings and some new ways to support my charities!

Changes are coming to "Art to Help Dogs in Need"

For nearly three years, this project has had a very specific heartbeat: one painting, every single month, dedicated to supporting the incredible work of my chosen charities.
Since June 2023, I haven't missed a beat. It has been a journey of discipline, creativity, and most importantly – continuous support for my chosen charities.

But as any artist knows, projects need room to breathe and grow.

I recently sat down with my partner charities to discuss the future. While I am incredibly proud of the monthly series, I’ve realized that the "monthly deadline" sometimes limits how deep I can go with a piece or how I can explore new creative paths. So, a new chapter begins.

The era of "monthly paintings" is coming to a close.
This doesn't mean the mission is over — far from it!
By shifting my energy, I can explore different routes for this project. You will still see paintings from me available for a donation towards the charities, but they will be occasional.

What happens next?
• I will be revealing the very last piece of this regular monthly series on Monday, May 4th. It’s a special piece involving feathers and found objects that feels like the perfect closing note.

• Over the next few month, I will start working on a digital catalogue for my website so you can easily see which of these charity works are still available to purchase.

• You can always visit my website subpage “Art with Heart” to see the real-world impact of your support. I keep it updated with photos of the dogs we’ve helped with sterilization and vet costs.

Thank you for being part of this journey for the last three years.
I am very much looking forward to exploring new paths and taking my art to the next level. Please stay tuned - I’ll be sharing the next stage of this adventure with you!

A little story of Hope to start the week... ❤️

Last week, I had a lovely visit from Louise at Benafim Dogs Rescue. It was wonderful to catch up and hear about the incredible work they do every day.

During her visit, I was honoured to hand over a donation from the sale of my painting, "Forever."

This piece has found its new home, where it will serve as a beautiful tribute to a very much missed dog. I am deeply grateful to the buyer for her generosity. Thank you so much!

These funds are going directly toward the veterinary costs for a sweet young dog named Hope.

Hope arrived at the shelter a few weeks ago, unable to use her back legs. Tests have since revealed she is fighting heartworm and multiple strains of tick fever, which likely caused her paralysis.

I feel so inspired to help more often through my art. Louise and I had a great chat about what’s next.
I’ll be sharing more updates with you in my next post!

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.

This year has been an interesting one behind the scenes so far.

With the first quarter already behind us, I’ve been taking a moment to pause and contemplate about what works and what to leave behind to make room for growth.

I can feel my artistic path shifting toward new horizons and my art is taking me down new paths lately. I’m still working out exactly where they lead. More on that soon!

For now, I’m simply taking a little time off to enjoy the abundance of Spring. 🌷
Wishing you a lovely week ahead filled with sunshine!
