In The Pink

In The Pink Based in the Algarve, In The Pink is a leading fine art photography gallery in Portugal. Photography is a fast-evolving medium in contemporary art.

Founded by photography collectors Phil and Anja Burks, 𝗜𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗸 promotes artworks by some of the world's most sought-after photographers. The gallery has also set out to discover local voices and exhibit photography about Portugal. Numerous solo and group exhibitions have taken place in the gallery's pink palacete in Loulé, which spans over three floors. In the summer of 2024 In The Pink opened

its second location, 𝗜𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆, at exclusive Quinta Shopping in Quinta do Lago. It has been an ubiquitous part of the commercial and institutional art world for a while, recently making significant strides in the art market. In The Pink guides clients and art enthusiasts in exploring the power of images and in learning more about the joys of collecting photography.

Before a legendary album cover, there was a contact sheet.

This remarkable work offers a rare glimpse into one of the most celebrated photographic sessions in music history: Brian Duffy’s creation of the Aladdin Sane album cover.

Rather than a single finished image, the contact sheet reveals the sequence of moments behind the lightning bolt that would become one of the most recognisable symbols in popular culture. A behind-the-scenes look at the creative process, the experimentation, and the split-second decisions that transformed a photograph into an icon.

More than fifty years later, these frames remain a testament to the power of photography to shape cultural history.

As Loulé comes alive with the sounds of Festival MED, we are reminded that music and visual art often speak the same language.

The vibrant, joyful world of Derrick Ofosu Boateng finds a natural rhythm in the infectious energy of Seun Kuti’s Afrobeat.

Through colour, movement and celebration, both artists capture the vitality, creativity and spirit that make West African culture so influential around the world.

At Festival MED, that energy is heard through music. At In The Pink, it can be seen through photography.

While our current exhibition, BOWIE — The Photographers, continues to welcome visitors in Loulé, works by Derrick Ofosu Boateng remain available to view through our collection and art advisory programme.

This exhibition brings together a wide-ranging selection of the artist’s work, from the striking monochromatic Silhouettes series to some of his most recognisable and provocative compositions. Works such as High Heel Dinner, Alice in Wonderland, Gator Birkin Monochrome, and Roadside Assistance reveal his distinctive approach to staging, where luxury, tension, and narrative collide.

Also on view are Nine Lips and Veil, presented in a gallery setting for the very first time.

Tyler Shields constructs a world where richness and imagination take form through colour and detail. The vivid tones, the theatrical setting, and the presence of the rabbit evoke a moment suspended between celebration and surrealism.

Everything within the frame is real — composed, staged, and captured on film.

We are proud to congratulate Sónia Apolónia on her first solo exhibition.
Thank you to all who joined us for the opening, it was a truly special evening in everyone’s presence.

The exhibition brings together works from three different series, including her most recent pieces from the “Above the Noise” series, created in India.

These new works introduce rich pigments, layered textures, and perspectives that reflect both atmosphere and contrast.
