As one of the oldest civilizations in human history, the Iranian nation has repeatedly shown its commitment to peace, from the era of Cyrus the Great to the present day. Yet today, Iranians are resisting one of the most brutal terrorist and anti-freedom regimes with little more than courage and bare hands. It is heartbreaking that those who passionately chant “Free Palestine” often remain silent when it comes to “Free Iran.”

It increasingly appears that, for some, this is a matter of taste rather than humanity. Dear Mr. Roger Waters, since the release of “We Don’t Need No Education”—surprisingly in the very year Iran lost its freedoms—perhaps it is time to acknowledge that education, historical awareness, and moral consistency are exactly what we need, and to finally say: “we do need some education!”

I genuinely do not understand why the U.S. and the West are focusing solely on preventing these mullahs from acquiring nuclear weapons. For the past 47 years, have they needed nuclear power to commit so many crimes against people around the world? Is the goal merely to stop them from making the world worse—or, now that there is a real opportunity to stop them once and for all, should it be used to make the world better?

The Iranian people are courageously resisting—barehanded—the very source of much of the terrorism that has plagued the world. Governments that choose to remain silent, or that hide behind hollow, performative statements such as “we condemn violence against these people,” must be held accountable for enabling terrorism through inaction.

Remember: if you remain silent, sanctions should be directed at you—not at the people of Iran. Your silence reveals your true colors.

Oxford University Press has chosen brain rot as the Word of the Year for 2024. This phrase describes how we may lose focus, feel mentally tired, or less smart because of spending too much time on silly or boring online content, like endless social media scrolling or binge-watching videos.

Psychologists explain that consuming low-quality or repetitive content can reduce critical thinking, lower attention spans, and increase stress or anxiety. This is because:

1. Overstimulation: Too much online content floods the brain with information, making it harder to process or focus.
2. Dopamine Addiction: Quick, fun content releases dopamine (a “feel-good” chemical). Over time, this can lead to needing more stimulation to feel happy.
3. Decreased Productivity: Spending hours on trivial content replaces time for learning, resting, or real-life connections.

The rise of brain rot is a growing issue worldwide. It shows how modern technology and endless online distractions are shaping human behavior and mental health. Experts worry it could lead to:
1. Weaker Attention Spans: People struggle to focus on important tasks or long-term goals.
2. Stress and Anxiety: Constant online activity can create feelings of overwhelm or comparison with others.
3. Lost Creativity: Less time is spent on hobbies, learning, or problem-solving.

The term brain rot is a wake-up call about how we spend time online. It reminds us to take breaks, focus on meaningful activities, and protect our mental health in a digital world.

Moved to a new country, found a new friend. This morning, I wake up on my birthday to a VIP ticket for the concert of my dreams—Marizza herself! Speechless. Jorge, you’re not even on Instagram, you can’t even make it to the concert yourself, yet you did this. New friends can sometimes mean great friends.

Thank you, Jorge! I’m so lucky to have you as a friend. And thank you, Leitaria da Anunciada, for being part of this journey!
