Proteo | 2023 🌈

Proteo, a Mexican rescue dog, left for Turkey as a member of a dog squad but emerged as a hero amidst piles of rubble. He passed away after working for several days, searching for survivors in areas ravaged by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The Mexican rescue teams in Türkiye gathered Sunday to mourn and pay homage to Proteo.

Agnes aka Chocoflana | ? yrs. ( crossed over 🌈)

On October 9, 2019, I was walking in a park, when I suddenly saw a very malnourished cat that seemed about to die. I decided to take her and then put her up for adoption. The truth is that I did not make much effort to put her up for adoption, because she was the one who actually adopted me. I found her a month after I first moved by myself, so she was great company. Plus it was shortly before the pandemic started, so her presence in my life became even more significant. I always say she rescued me.
We don't know her age, because the first veterinarian who saw her told me she was 10 years old, and the second told me she was 1 and a half years old at the most. When she died, they told me she was a kitten, approximately 8 years old. She was probably a magical kitten who lived in various dimensions and at various ages.
She loved having her little tongue out, which was like her signature mark.
She was a loving, generous, and calm cat who always took care of me and saved me.
I learned and am still learning a lot from her. Sadly due to some health issues, she could not be here anymore.
I’m so grateful for life because of my Chocoflana. She was such a great teacher and angel.

Welcome to a safe and compassionate space for those who want to listen, share and celebrate the life of their beloved pet. Open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a pet at any stage of their life.

Inspired by the Mexican tradition of “Day of the Dead,” we will create a communal altar and ritual to honor their memory. Rituals are one of the most powerful ways to honor a life and bring people together. They give our grief purpose and let us express our hearts with beauty and meaning.

Join us as we honor the memory of our precious pets in an evening of community and sweet memories.

Please bring a picture of your pet, a candle, and any offering that reminds you of them as we will be lighting them together in their memory and honor.

I look forward to this new circle together and feel honored to share the memory of your lovely pet ✨

Duchess Muñeca | 13 yrs.

Duchess Muñeca is a rescue dog who was abandoned on the streets of Bogota, Colombia. A month into fostering her she went blind due to glaucoma. That’s the moment I knew she had to stay with me. Although she had all sorts of health issues she has bloomed into the funniest and most loving dog. She is the light of my life.

Dala | Taken from the word ManDALA | 14 yrs. ( crossed over 🌈)

I adopted one month old baby Dala from a woman selling tortas in CDMX. She showed me the little puppy infested with fleas. I took it home, gave her a warm bath and first kisses and hugs. Dala showed me how to connect with her. Since that moment I have taken her everywhere I can. Tulum, Oaxaca, Morelos, Canada, Chiapas, Mahahual, Veracruz. My reason to wake up and appreciate simple but magical moments. My reason to go back home too. She was a perfect dog. She left me a couple of her babies, Rambo and Vikingo. Five years ago she passed away. And she is still very missed. Forever loved Dala.

Deucy | 15.5 ( crossed over 🌈)

I named him Deucy because when I got him at 14 weeks old, he weighed 2lbs and in playing cards the 2 is called the deuce. His registered name was Little Deuce of Michelly. There are so many wonderful memories with my Deucy. Full grown, he weighed 5lbs. He was my sidekick. Everywhere I went, he went. I'm the only one who bathed and groomed him. He was with me, kissing my tears away through so many tragic events. He was my FIERCE protector and at 5lbs would take on 100lb dogs if one got within 10 feet of me. We played, slept, and ate together. I'll never be the same again until I'm reunited with him for ETERNITY.

Appreciation Post | I thought I could do it alone

Losing a pet is incredibly hard. Having a partner who supports me, and provides the space to grieve and heal has been a beautiful gift.

This man showed up every time. He accompanied me to multiple vet visits, embraced me when I was losing hope, and helped plan a lovely farewell. In moments like these, finding solace in my partner's presence gave me the strength to keep going. To muster the energy to get out of bed knowing by the end of the day, Pera’s ashes would end up in a wooden box. He was there, lovingly, holding her in her final breaths. Together we made the call. Together the three of us drew our last joint breath together as we let our beloved Pera enter the spiritual realm.

Thank you for your unconditional love and strength throughout this painful journey. ✨
