Angela Detanico / Rafael Lain () and Nuno da Luz () are participating in the inaugural edition of ARTCUT entitled "Exercises in Empathy".

The Catholic Universities Art Triennial () is an international initiative promoted by the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See, bringing together Catholic universities, artists, curators and cultural institutions from around the world.

Conceived as a collaborative project dedicated to artistic creation, academic research and dialogue, the Triennial will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Santiago, Bogotá, Boston, Milan, Lisbon and Luanda, bringing together an international network of universities

Opening 3 September, this second part of the openings takes place in Santiago, Chile at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and the show runs until 22 November 2026.

Ana Vieira’s exhibition ‘The Narrative Structure’ can be visited at the gallery until Saturday, 19 September.

Curated by Antonia Gaeta (), who has worked on Ana Vieira’s Estate as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Artist’s Estate (alongside Astrid Suzano and Sofia Gomes), the exhibition brings together a selection of emblematic series that the Vera Cortês Art Agency organized with Ana Vieira in 2004.

“In Close Up, the extreme proximity and optical distortion shift the mode through which the image is read. Detail does not deepen recognition; it alters it. Concave and convex mirrors introduce deformation and discontinuity, intensifying the instability of the visible and preventing the fixation of form as a perceptual totality.” - Antonia Gaeta, in the curatorial text.

Susanne S. D. Themlitz’s ‘Entre Seres’ (2026) will be shown at MAAT Central on 29 August, 10 PM.

“Human figures with animal heads appear in a hallucinatory manner throughout the Natural History and Science Museum in Lisbon and in different locations of the Botanical Garden. Octopuses intertwine with the aerial roots of giant trees. Between the storage shelves of the mammal collection, a flying turtle hovers in the air, whilst a human kangaroo stands almost motionless, holding an owl. The film, a journey in a state of suspension.”

Curated by Jean-François Chougnet and João Pinharanda, the video screening is part of FUSO - festival internacional de videoarte de Lisboa.

Created by layering advertising posters, covering the surface with white paint, and then carving back through the accumulated layers, Alexandre Farto aka Vhils’ Billboard series reveals fragments of urban memory hidden beneath the city’s visual noise.

The resulting compositions bring images, textures, and histories to the surface: a physical reflection of the ever-changing visual identity of contemporary urban life.

The gallery reopens on 18 August, and our showroom will feature a selection of works by Alexandre Farto aka Vhils.

While the gallery is closed for the summer break, you can still see works by our artists on view at the 24th Cerveira International Art Biennial (BIAC) in Vila Nova de Cerveira.

Alexandre Farto aka Vhils, Carlos Bunga, and Susanne S. D. Themlitz are participating in De qué casa eres?, a group exhibition bringing together artists from different generations and geographies to reflect on displacement, belonging, and identity as an ever-evolving process.

Presented within the framework of this year's theme, Territories Without Borders, the Biennial explores borders as places of encounter, transformation, and exchange through a programme of exhibitions, performances, conferences, curatorial projects, and film.

If you're travelling through northern Portugal this summer, it's the perfect opportunity to experience the work of these three artists in the context of one of the country's longest-running contemporary art biennials.

The ’Nomad’ is a series of photogravures by Carlos Bunga that can be seen at the gallery.

Through these works, the artist maps the homes and studios he has inhabited from childhood to 2019, creating a personal cartography that is both biographical and political.

The figure of the nomad, a recurring presence throughout the artist’s practice, emerges as a hybrid being, combining animal limbs, a child’s body, and architectural forms that become its head. This configuration not only unsettles the notion of a fixed identity, but also presents dwelling as a condition of perpetual transition: fragmented, yet profoundly embodied.

The journey begins with ‘A minha mãe. A minha primeira casa foi uma mulher (My Mother. My First Home Was a Woman)’, in which the maternal womb is conceived as the first architecture, the original place of shelter. From there, the prints unfold through a succession of spaces that oscillate between precarity and the making of place: refugee reception centres in Porto and Peniche, the student residence in Caldas da Rainha, and later the various studios and cities where the artist has lived and worked—Amsterdam, Helsinki, Mexico City, New York, Madrid, Carrara, São Paulo, Chicago, Bogotá, Havana, Caldes d’Estrac, and, finally, Mataró.

Alexandre Farto aka Vhils () is part of ‘Alice Neel: Beautifully Imperfect’, a major retrospective dedicated to one of the portraitist of the 20th century, on view at the Serralves Museum, Porto.

The exhibition explores themes of identity, intimacy, and social engagement. Alongside the artist's paintings and archival material, it presents a series of previously unseen letters written by contemporary artists, writers, and musicians in tribute to Neel's enduring legacy. Vhils is among the invited contributors, joining artists including Jordan Casteel, Chantal Joffe, and Celia Paul in this collective homage.

On view until 31 January 2027 at the Serralves Museum, Porto.
