André Romão () is part of ‘Corpo-Fantasma’, the new exhibition at Centro de Artes Villa Portela with works from CACE – Coleção de Arte Contemporânea do Estado.

‘Corpo-Fantasma’ revolves around the concept of spectrality, presenting the ghost as a metaphor that evokes what has passed and foreshadows what is to come. Through a free-flowing, non-linear narrative, the works explore the realm between the visible and the invisible, where the human figure is shaped by the tension between presence and absence.

Curated by Marta Espiridão, the show is on view until 28 June.

In the Main Gallery and the Cistern, the exhibition ‘A Collection: where drawing happens 1993–2025’ takes Casa da Cerca as its starting point—as a physical, symbolic and temporal space—where drawing takes place.

João Louro and John Wood and Paul Harrison are part of ‘The Act of the Hosts’ on view at the Serralves Foundation.

Curated by Ricardo Nicolau, the exhibition brings together works from the Fundação Leal Rios Collection. The title of this exhibition recovers the name of Camões’ play—and, with it, a history of derivations, plundering and deviations. It immediately invokes three of the characteristics that make the exhibition and the objects it presents unique: firstly, it underlines Serralves’ hospitable vocation and adds meaning to the idea that its Collection is a ‘collection of collections’.

‘The Act of the Hosts. Works from the Fundação Leal Rios Collection in the Serralves Collection’ is on view until 28 June

Carlos Bunga at Fundació Miró Mallorca ()

‘New Life After Fire’ is Carlos Bunga’s solo exhibition exploring fire as both a force of destruction and renewal, a symbol deeply rooted in transformation, ritual, and the cycles of nature. Inspired in part by the legacy of Joan Miró and the spirit of place, the artist invites us to reflect on what emerges after everything seems lost.

To Carlos Bunga, destruction (a word he avoids at all cost) never means the end of something but rather a new beginning. “For his project at Miró Mallorca, Bunga is interested in weaving traditional everyday objects and crafts into his exhibition, like the objects Miró had lying around in his houses and studios, as well as reflecting Miró’s interest in the process and possibilities of crafts such as tapestry making.” - Roland Groenenboom.

‘New Life After Fire’ runs through 6 September 2026

Ana Vieira’s ‘The Narrative Structure’ is on view at the gallery.

Curated by Antonia Gaeta, who has worked on Ana Vieira’s Estate as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Artist’s Estate (alongside Astrid Suzano and Sofia Gomes), the show brings together two works which epitomize the tension between interior and exterior, representation and reality.

Please note that the gallery will be closed for holidays on the 4, 10 and 13 June.

Today is the last day at ARCOlisboa!

Conceived as an artist’s book in the form of an archive box, this work by Susanne Themlitz brings together 26 pieces, including photogravures, Giclée prints, drawings, and original paintings. The ensemble is presented in a conservation box with a transparent polycarbonate window, allowing a glimpse of its contents.

“Susanne S. D. Themlitz entices us – the viewers – to mingle or interact with her brainchildren-characters who people the exhibition spaces, suggesting we may all become part of the same community while in the same space. Thus, she calls for a reassessment of the established rules that predicate our relationship with the different non-human life forms that some bluntly ignore or merely consider as elements in a landscape, as adornment.” - Benjamin Weil.

Over the years, Susanne S. D. Themlitz’s work developed into a poetic universe of great symbolism, in constant dialogue with art history, literature, natural sciences, popular traditions, and children’s stories.
\
“Fifteen glass tiles taken from the mosaic room at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the start of my academic training, and which for years lay forgotten and locked away inside a box, serve as the inspiration for the drawing I have named ‘minus fifteen’.
From the model, or origin, a process of presentation, representation and transformation begins which, drawing on simple and elementary relationships of enlargement, addition and subtraction, ends in what I call the shadow, folded and temporarily stored.”

Armanda Duarte’s work is site-specific to such a degree that her proposals are actually determined by her observation and analysis of each given space. She observes the characteristics and details of each context in search of the essence which will lead the process of creation up to the work’s final reception.
