Where does the bird get its inspiration to sing?
Where does the artist receive the idea to paint?

What moves us?

This painting was originally started in art school and was a side project that i painted with left over paint. It was a space to vent, practice, explore. This painting went through many stages and many layers.

Then it sat for two years.

One day I looked at it and said ok. You’re not done yet but I want you to be so let’s do this.

Many layers later.

The bird of myth appeared. A bird that existed before we did or perhaps after. A creation of a creation.

🤍

Now this painting is hanging as a part of a series of work I made here on Denman island. The title of the series is “is the land dreaming us?”

With the thought that we are as much affected by our environment as the land is by us. The land, the sea, the air all has an effect on our psyche and there is more moving through us than we are aware of.

Every place has a song. Every place has a vibration. We either dream with it, listen to it or have conflict.
The earth, the land beneath our feet is alive. It has its own dreams, its own rhythms. We as humans have a choice. to listen or not. To dream with it or not.

We are a part of the co-creation.

🌿💛

Have you talked to the trees lately? Have you listened to the birds sing?

What dreams are arising in you?

Soaking in the blue 🩵

shared her passion project and gave a lesson on how to dye natural fabric with indigo (a plant). It was fascinating!

Here’s a little handmade handkerchief I got from an antique store that was dyed during this process.

Thanks for the magical weekend 😘
Nature is magical and so are you 🌿💛☺️

Miko wanted to be in the photo… 😂🙄

I wrote something about art that’s been sitting with me for a while.
We spend so much time trying to define what art is, but I care more about what art actually does to us.
How it changes us when we make it.
How it shifts something in us when we experience it.
How it helps us process life itself.
Art isn’t separate from life. It’s part of how life understands itself.
I shared a longer essay on it here if you want to read.
Curious what others think about this too.

I was in the mountains of Italy.
The sun was hiding behind the night.
I woke up to the sensation of arising out of my body.
The veil thin.
Patterns emerged in the darkness.
What seemed like empty space was filled.

🤍

We all have experiences we cannot explain. We may not talk about them but they become extraordinary reminders that that material world is only one perspective.

💛

The subtle peaks through every once in a while, creating awe and many times fear.

To me these moments are life lines. They keep me going. They remind me of what’s important and there is so much more going on than what we can perceive and see.

Can you relate?

Studio assistants, errand helpers, pick me uppers, break time inducers, cuddlers and trouble makers.

These two nuggets fill my heart in so many ways.

There is something about places that feel like they are on the edge of the world.

Isolation, fear, possibility, adventure, curiosity are some of the emotions that can wave in and out.

It’s similar to meeting an edge, a precipice within yourself. A place where you have not ventured before. The liminal. The place of known meeting unknown.

It’s also comes up when your working on a painting and branching into unknown terriority.

It also shows up when we are about to make a big change in our life.

We don’t know what’s to come. We don’t know what’s on the other side. We don’t know if we will like it. We don’t know if it will be good or bad.

But what we do know is we will grow. We will learn.

and that is the whole point.

So jump.

Jump into the unknown.

Into the liminal and enjoy the adventure 🩵

Two lessons learned from creating this ocean inspired 4x4ft canvas:

1. Always trust your instincts.
2. Cherish life and respect all life forms.

This piece has been a labor of love and grief, spanning years.

Some artworks are quick to come together, while others take their time. This one has developed a life of its own.

What’s beautiful is how much has changed within me from the beginning to the end of this piece.

Healing is possible 🩵

'From Micro to Macro, all is sentient', 4x4ft, multi-medium, canvas.

Available for purchase; kindly DM for pricing and shipping details.
