Kurare — a synth where every note is a crowd
In 1975 a physicist named Kuramoto wrote one equation for how crowds fall into step. Fireflies flashing together. Crickets. Heart cells. Each one has its own tempo, each one nudges toward the group. Weak pull: chaos. Cross a threshold: sudden sync. In between, the beautiful part — clusters forming, breathing, drifting apart, re-forming.
Kurare puts that equation under your fingers.
Every note is two swarms, red and white, up to 32 oscillators each. You don’t sculpt a waveform. You herd a crowd.
🔴 POPULATE — how many voices are alive
⚪ DECOUPLE — one fused voice, or let them loose into a cloud
🔴 DIVERGE — fan the pitches into octave layers while they still march together
⚪ EXCITE — heat. Shake the swarm until it simmers at the edge of sync
The disc in the middle isn’t decoration. Those particles are the real oscillators of the note you’re playing. Cloud at low coupling. Lattice when they lock. Shiver when you turn up the heat. What you hear is what you see.
Underneath: 16 voices, filters, envelopes, 3 LFOs, generative mod lanes, sequencer, delay, reverb, wavefold. Fully deterministic — same patch, same notes, same audio to the bit. Presets travel as short share keys.
