Mono is happy to invite you to the first edition of Pata na Poça, presenting the works of Mariana Lourenço, Inês Oliveira, Micaela Duarte, Bernardo Infante, Fernando Pimenta, Margarida Leal, Richad Selemane, Maria Peixoto Martins, Axelle Camille, Amanda Triano, Bruno Mesquita

Opening on Friday, 11th of September, 6pm to 10pm

Pata na Poça is the first edition of an exhibition bringing together the works of eleven selected young artists. The project places different practices, languages and sensibilities in dialogue, allowing the works to create, without a predetermined narrative, different possibilities for interpretation.
The artists share a particular attention to conditions of transition: from presence to absence, from memory to transformation, from the individual to the other. Rather than a common theme, these are tensions that recur through bodies, images, words and materials.

One of the threads running through the project is translation: moving something from one form to another, from one language to another, while accepting that something may shift, disappear or remain irreducible. Communication makes encounter possible, yet also brings misunderstanding; an image can preserve a presence while simultaneously proclaiming its absence.

It is within this distance that vulnerability emerges. To be vulnerable is to be afflicted by a vulnus, a wound that unsettles the notion of a strong, autonomous and sovereign subject. It is a condition we cannot escape, exposing the limits of the self and its relation to what lies beyond it.

Pata na Poça does not aim to construct a single narrative, but to bring together works that remain autonomous, allowing connections and resonances to emerge between them.

We are happy to welcome Maryam Ghasemi and Lily Cooper Cooper as our Summer Residency artists.
Maryam Ghasemi is an Iranian artist based in Switzerland whose multidisciplinary practice explores resistance, solidarity, femininity, migration and embodiment. Drawing on the illustrated manuscript traditions of the SWANA region, the lyricism of Persian idiom and proverb and the language of protest, her work bridges historical and contemporary narratives, weaving together the personal and the collective.
Lily Cooper is a visual artist living and working in Chicago. Primarily working in oil painting, their practice investigates the intimacy of domestic spaces and the ways they anchor us amid the constant movement and transformation of everyday life.

MONO is pleased to present “Before Concept, There Is Attraction” by Hugo Marmelada, taking place on June 26 & 27.

Bringing together participants from his Gaga classes in Lisbon and Hip Hop/Contemporary students from the Eva Vieira de Almeida School, this work creates a meeting point between different experiences, sensibilities, and ways of dancing.

A performance about what moves us before explanation: attraction, curiosity, and the pleasure of encounter.

A work about trusting what draws us in, even when we don’t yet know exactly why.

🎟️ Tickets available via the link in our bio.

A mono tem o prazer de apresentar o espectáculo « Before Concept, There Is Attraction » do coreógrafo Hugo Marmelada a decorrer nos dias 26 e 27 de Junho.
Bilhetes disponíveis na nossa bio.
Before concept, there is attraction.
“Before concept, there is attraction” nasce desse desejo de encontro.
