CC:DISCO!

DJ, radio host, curator, label head and party promoter – CC:DISCO! is hopelessly lost in music and there’s no turning back. Playing disco, house and boogie cuts with her heart at the controls, CC triggers a joyous feedback loop that infects the dance floor. There’s no pretension, only pure feeling.

A Melbourne club scene mainstay, CC began connecting with audiences just like the heroes before her – through FM radio. Having presented shows since the age of 15, her weekly PBS FM slot of six years ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ became a local institution – the quintessential Friday night party starter – priming her for her bi-weekly residency on Rinse FM, as well as knock out guest spots for NTS, Red Light Radio and Dublab.

Now stationed in Lisbon, CC continues to rise as one of her fertile hometown’s most active exports. With three extensive UK/EU tours in 2018, she’s commanded the hallowed dancehalls of Sub Club, ://about blank, Kompass and DJOON. Well versed in mobilizing people on mass with her contagious energy, the festival staple has sent Oasis, Lost Village, DGTL, PITCH, Strawberry Fields, Meredith, Glastonbury, Love International, Kala and Westival into frenzies.

Never one to lose sight of where she’s come from, she remains deeply engaged with her local community and loyal to those who have inspired her along the way. In 2018 she curated First Light – a compilation that profiled Australian and New Zealand electronic artists. With a second volume on the horizon, it’s success also encouraged her to establish her own imprint, CC:EDITIONS, christened by a reissue of Ghanian highlife hero Nana Tuffour.

The Café Na Esquina and our exhibition « Primeiras Vezes » ended today !

We would like to especially thank all the amazing artists that we had the chance to exhibit for the first time in our brand new space.

We also had such a blast receiving you, coworkers, friends, strangers, through this whole month of opening !

But our team is still not on holidays :
👉 ONLY This Thursday and Friday, come see the results of our photography experiment powered by our talented duet of artists , being continuously projected from 10h to 17h on the walls of Na Esquina !
👉 We will also close this 2020 chapter with 2 last evenings of music ! Don’t forget to grab your tickets ;)

After that, Na Esquina will close its doors until next year for a whole new thematic opening, a new open-call, a new exhibition, a market of a new kind, more workshops, more concerts, but most of all, trying to achieve the same goals : give the building a life, create a local & dynamic community that evolves around the space and promote culture in the most eclectic way possible 🙂 Stay in touch !

« Humanity is forced to see the world and look deeper at each other »
How important are our eyes, as we are now forced to wear a mask in public spaces, keeping our distance from one another? How do we express ourselves, convey emotions and get along with this new way of communicating?
We are looking for people of any kind, and any age. Children, elders, families, couples, friends, single people. During a 15min shooting session, we will try to catch an expression, a feeling.
The session is entirely free and you will receive the picture by e-mail.

BLACK POMADE .pomade

Lisbon circuit regular Black Pomade is a DJ and producer originally from Milan (Italy) active since 2007. Heavily influenced by the NY Disco scene and the Chicago originators, he's known for his melting-pot of analog synths, groovy basslines, soulful lyrics, and syncopated beats. When he's behind the decks, expect lots of House, Disco, Italo, and Funky records filling the dance floor with high energy and big smiles.

Throughout the years he had the chance to bring his music in various places outside the Portuguese borders, including radio shows in Ibiza and Melbourne, and gigs in Vienna, Sofia, and his hometown Milan.

In April 2020 Black Pomade released his first single "Marine", an Acid Italo Disco track in collaboration with the photographer Eric Bouvet and the art gallery MONO. In May he also remixed the track "Cages" from the Brooklyn-based band Sontag Sh**un, and "Cash Back", a classic house banger edit on Modmotif. Finally, in October, he released his first physical record, a white-labeled 7" containing two dutch-sang electropop tracks, revisited for a modern twist.

SHUGI .music

Resident dj at Rinse France radio and Club Silencio in Paris as well as at Soft Power parties in Los Angeles. Shugi’s style evolves amongst underground parties, festivals, clubs and private events for brands such as Chloe, LVMH and Axel Arigato.

Her sets dreamily flow through various styles of techno, house, disco and electronic music, though Shugi only has one idea in mind: make her audience dance to DJ sets where « groove » is always the common thread .

Shugi is also the lead singer and songwriter of Their Names electro-pop duo since 2017 with producer Max Future based in Paris.

DJ’ing abroad during the winter 2019-2020 in Berlin, Lisbon, Porto, Madrid, Stockholm, Los Angeles, Irapuato, Mexico City and Tulum;
Shugi just recently came back to Europe, working between Paris, Stockholm and Lisbon. Stay tuned !

ABOUT THIS CLASS

This class is for everyone who enjoys moving. After a light warmup, we will continue with a bit of improvisation; Dance improvisation is a process of spontaneous discovery, creating meaningful movement in "real-time."

We explore a variety of scores and creative tasks that foster sensitivity, conscious awareness of movement choices, and openness to finding unexpected pathways. As each of us deepens our ability to draw on our individual creative resources, we can also experience more satisfying collaborations while dancing together in the same space.
This class is for adult participants with little to no dance training who are eager to expand their creative process in dance and/or to become more comfortable with improvisation and movement.

ABOUT PATRICIA KELEHER

Born in San Francisco California, Patricia I has been dancing professionally for over 10 years.

Throughout her career, she has been honored to dance on many international stages working with several renowned choreographers both on existing work as well as new creations.

Currently working as a freelance dancer, artist, and teacher where she is involved in a range of different projects within Europe, as well as local creations in Portugal. In 2019, Patricia began embarking on her creative path as a choreographer and has since created four site-specific performances in collaboration with other artists, incorporating different media and art forms such as film, sculpture, and electronic music.

Patricia is currently based in Lisbon, Portugal where she is a freelance dancer, teacher, and choreographer.

DIDI tem como inspiração principal em seu trabalho a arte projetada pela "black q***r culture" e referência direta aos ritmos afrodiaspóricos difundidos desde os bailes funk do Rio de Janeiro aos clubes de house/disco/funk/soul dos anos 80, a passar pelo R&B dos anos 90/00 e o alternative R&B de hoje, até chegar aos beats do kuduro e afrohouse por celebrar a identidade cultural q***r afrodiaspórica em sua diversidade. Já passou pela 49doZDB e Casa do Capitão.

JEFF ()
BEMLOKA é o nickname do DJ Jeff em seu projeto de pesquisa sobre sonoridades emergentes e de vanguarda na música pop com foco na vertente hyperpop. As seleções metem luz acima de artistas que fizeram e fazem música pop com referências a frente de seu tempo, estéticas não-óbvias e orgulho de suas identidades. Já passou pelo Nucleo 70, Valsa e Plantasia.

A partir do 23 de setembro, na sua primeira residência, o coletivo Na Esquina ocupará um palácio localizado na Praça do Príncipe Real, 18 e transforma-lo-á num lugar efémero de convívio social, cultural e festivo !

Um espaço cultural, aberto ao público 5 dias por mês durante 1 semana temática, de quarta a domingo, do meio-dia à meia-noite. Em acesso livre, dois andares do palácio acolherão uma programação cultural diversificada (concertos, shows, exposições, etc.) onde ocorrerão também iniciativas cidadãs (debates, cursos, oficinas intergeracionais.. etc).
