Espaço Portas do Sol: Como tudo começou...
Carla Pontes e Fernando Leão alugavam um pequeno espaço onde guardavam algum material, onde ensaiavam e onde eram dadas aulas de instrumentos.
Um dia, em conversa com o proprietário do edifício, foi falado sobre a possibilidade de alugar uma parcela maior do edifício. Na altura, o Fernando, a Carla e o Roberto Estorninho conversaram sobre a possibilidade de converter essa parcela num espaço de cultura e de bem-estar. Os três concordaram e, com o acordo firmado com o proprietário, nasceu o Espaço Portas do Sol, aproveitando o nome do próprio condomínio. A Sonarsis, representada pelo Fernando, e a Ideias do Levante, representada pelo Roberto, assinaram um contrato com a Geolar, Lda. relativo à utilização da parcela maior do edifício, a 7 de novembro de 2014.
Carla, Fernando e Roberto sentavam-se nas escadas centrais do edifício para gerar ideias. Muito se pensou, projectou e muito se foi fazendo no espaço. Não havia muitos fundos, mas havia muita paixão, empenho e vontade de concretizar. Partiu-se paredes, construiu-se paredes, mudou-se secções completas de portas, pintou-se tectos, paredes e chão, suou-se — e cada desafio superado tornou o espaço ainda mais nosso. O espaço foi aberto ao público para aulas de instrumentos, canto, dança, teatro, sessões de terapias, e tanto mais.
Os caminhos da vida levaram a que Carla e Roberto ficassem a gerir o espaço, até que o destino trouxe o Ed Kamphorst, uma força da natureza com uma personalidade e atitude que moldaria o espaço e a forma como as pessoas se conectariam.
Agora Carla, Ed e Roberto sentavam-se nas escadas e geravam mais ideias. Sonhou-se com a possibilidade de abrir um espaço café no primeiro andar. Gradualmente foi-se preparando o espaço para tal, até que um dia Miguel Padilha e Isa Barão perceberam o potencial e a oportunidade de colaborar na criação de um espaço vegetariano — e assim nasceu o Surya. A 15 de março de 2018, a Ideias do Levante assinou um acordo com o Miguel e a Isa, para que o espaço café pudesse tornar-se realidade.
Foi possível dotar o espaço de mais condições ao longo dos anos graças a um apoio financeiro super generoso, sem o qual o projecto poderia não ter sobrevivido. Muito tempo e dinheiro foram investidos, sempre com o devido cuidado.
Logo antes da pandemia, o restaurante passou para o Bruno Rafael e a Inês Nunes. A Ideias do Levante assinou um acordo com ambos a 5 de janeiro de 2019 e nasceu o Balance. A pandemia chegou, e ambos tiveram de se adaptar — e, com resiliência, conseguiram superar as dificuldades e permaneceram no espaço durante vários anos. A última renovação do Balance, e consequentemente do resto do espaço, foi inspirada pelas fantásticas qualidades visionárias de Tânia Surya. No final de 2025, o Balance passou para o chef David Simões, que lhe ofereceu a sua visão, talento e empenho. A Ideias do Levante assinou um acordo com o David a 2 de dezembro de 2025.
O Espaço Portas do Sol estava alinhado para um presente e futuro promissor. Muito se tinha investido, o edifício/espaço estava finalmente pronto, a equipa era coesa quanto fantástica.
Em fevereiro de 2026, chegou a difícil notícia de que o edifício seria demolido ainda durante esse ano e que seria necessário sair até ao final do mês de agosto de 2026. Foi um golpe sentido por todos — mas, como sempre, a comunidade que ali cresceu soube encontrar conforto e força uns nos outros.
A 30 de agosto foi o último dia de funcionamento do Balance no Espaço Portas do Sol. O dia 31 de agosto foi o último dia do Espaço Portas do Sol, na morada que o albergou durante 12 anos.
Muito se aprendeu, muito se partilhou e muito se viveu. O espaço foi um local de encontro e um porto seguro para todos os que o construíram, visitaram, desfrutaram e o dinamizaram. Foi palco de desafios que, um a um, souberam ser transformados em superação. O Espaço Portas do Sol foi muito mais do que um edifício — foi sonho, vida, desafio e concretização.
Gratidão profunda a todos os que contribuíram e continuam a contribuir para a história do Espaço Portas do Sol. Gratidão especial a Carla Pontes e a Ed Kamphorst pela total dedicação, entrega, cuidado, presença e atenção para com o espaço e para com as pessoas que nele partilharam as suas vidas. Gratidão ao Sr. Engenheiro Fonseca (gerente da Geolar, Lda.) pela confiança, generosidade, disponibilidade e atenção que teve para connosco.
Encerra-se um capítulo, mas não uma história.
Queremos crer que a Carla, o Ed e o Roberto irão sentar-se, mais uma vez, naquelas escadas, e continuar a sonhar com algo que traga luz, paz e sabedoria à comunidade.

Espaço Portas do Sol: How everything started...
Carla Pontes and Fernando Leão used to rent a small space where they stored equipment, held rehearsals, and gave instrument lessons.
One day, in conversation with the building's owner, the possibility came up of renting a larger section of the building. At the time, Fernando, Carla and Roberto Estorninho talked about converting that section into a space for culture and wellbeing. The three agreed, and once the agreement with the owner was in place, Espaço Portas do Sol was born, taking its name from the condominium itself. Sonarsis, represented by Fernando, and Ideias do Levante, represented by Roberto, signed a contract with Geolar, Lda. regarding the use of the larger section of the building on November 7th, 2014.
Carla, Fernando and Roberto would sit on the building's central staircase to dream up ideas. A great deal was thought through, planned, and gradually put into practice. There wasn't much funding, but there was a great deal of passion, dedication and determination to make it happen. Walls were knocked down, walls were built, entire sections of doors were replaced, ceilings, walls and floors were painted, sweat was put in — and every challenge overcome made the space feel even more their own. It was opened to the public for instrument lessons, singing, dance, theatre, therapy sessions, and so much more.
Life's paths led to Carla and Roberto managing the space, until fate brought in Ed Kamphorst, a force of nature whose personality and attitude would go on to shape the space and the way people connected within it.
Now Carla, Ed and Roberto would sit on the stairs and dream up even more ideas. They dreamed of opening a café space on the first floor. The space was gradually prepared for this, until one day Miguel Padilha and Isa Barão saw the potential and the opportunity to collaborate on creating a vegetarian space — and so Surya was born. On March 15th, 2018, Ideias do Levante signed an agreement with Miguel and Isa, so the café area could become a reality.
It was possible to further improve the space's conditions over the years thanks to super generous financial support, without which the project might not have survived. A great deal of time and money was invested, always with care.
Just before the pandemic, the restaurant passed to Bruno Rafael and Inês Nunes. Ideias do Levante signed an agreement with both of them on January 5th, 2019, and Balance was born. The pandemic arrived, and both had to adapt — with resilience, they overcame the difficulties and remained in the space for several years. The last makeover of Balance, and consequently of the rest of the space, was inspired by the awesome visionary qualities of Tânia Surya. At the end of 2025, Balance passed to chef David Simões, who brought to it his vision, talent and dedication. Ideias do Levante signed an agreement with David on December 2nd, 2025.
Espaço Portas do Sol was set for a promising present and future. A great deal had been invested, the building/space was finally ready, and the team was as cohesive as it was fantastic.
In February 2026, the difficult news arrived that the building would be demolished later that year, and that everyone would need to leave by the end of August 2026. It was a blow felt by all — but, as always, the community that had grown there found comfort and strength in one another.
On 30th August was the last day of operation for Balance at Espaço Portas do Sol. 31st August was the last day of Espaço Portas do Sol, at the address that had housed it for 12 years.
Much was learned, much was shared, much was lived. The space was a meeting point and a safe harbour for everyone who built it, visited it, enjoyed it, and brought it to life. It was the stage for challenges that, one by one, were turned into triumphs. Espaço Portas do Sol was far more than a building — it was a dream, life, a challenge, and an achievement.
Deep gratitude to everyone who contributed, and continues to contribute, to the story of Espaço Portas do Sol. Special gratitude to Carla Pontes and Ed Kamphorst for their total dedication, commitment, care, presence and attention to the space and to the people who shared their lives within it. A chapter has closed, but the story continues.
We want to believe that Carla, Ed and Roberto will sit once more on those stairs, and continue dreaming of something that brings light, peace and wisdom to the community.
