I get it… you can sing/scream, you’ve probably got lyrics and vocal ideas sitting around, but actually turning them into finished songs is the hard part when you don’t have a band or producer behind you.
I’ve been producing rock & metal music for years, and if I was a vocalist starting from zero today, here’s exactly what I’d do:
1️⃣ Stop waiting for a band
You don’t need to find a drummer, guitarist and bassist before you can start making music.
Find professionally produced instrumentals that already fit the kind of artist you want to become and start writing over them.

2️⃣ Write the vocals 🎤
Don’t try to finish an entire album.
Pick ONE instrumental that immediately gives you ideas.
Start with the strongest section — chorus, breakdown, verse, whatever inspires you first.
Write the vocal melody + lyrics and record a rough demo.
3️⃣ Build a simple home recording setup 🎧
You don’t need an expensive studio just to start.
Get a decent microphone + interface, learn a basic vocal recording setup and start getting comfortable recording yourself.
Your first goal is to turn ideas into actual finished songs.
4️⃣ Finish & release ONE song 🚀
Don’t leave another demo sitting on your hard drive for six months.
Finish the vocals, get the song mixed properly, create the artwork and put it out.
Spotify. Apple Music. YouTube.
Then do it again.
That’s how I’d start building a catalog as a solo metal artist this year.
