The presence of women in the arts continues to be marked by profound inequalities. From museums and galleries to criticism, the art market and art history itself, many artistic careers and practices remain less visible, documented and valued.
Bringing together the practical experience of the Women in Art Fellowship, a fellowship created to amplify the voices and opportunities of women in the arts in Portugal, with academic research and the perspective of the artist who won the first edition of the fellowship, this conversation invites reflection on women’s trajectories in the arts, some of the mechanisms of recognition and legitimisation within the art world, and the narratives that have come to dominate it.
The conversation will feature Astrid Sauer, co-founder of State of the Art and the Women in Art Fellowship; Beatriz Narciso , visual artist and winner of the first edition of the fellowship; and Filipa Vicente, historian and researcher whose work has explored the relationship between art history and feminism.
Bringing together these three perspectives, the event aims to contribute to a broader reflection on the conditions necessary to create a more plural and inclusive art world.
