Biography

My name is Isabel Filipa Silva (I. Filipa Silva), I was born in Oporto in 1986. Since I can remember I've been drawing and painting. When I was a teenager I started to get curious about tattooing and as soon as I could, I did my apprenticeship in a shop in the city of Madrid. After a while went back to my hometown and got my first tattoo. What began with curiosity soon developed to a growing passion and I got my first job in a tattoo shop as receptionist, body piercer and doing flash tattoos in 2006. Back then I didn't know what kind of life I wanted or even if I would have a future in tattooing. But a few years later I was ready for the next step. In 2011 I opened my first tattoo shop together with my husband in a small town in the north of Portugal. Soon after, we changed location to the birth city of Portugal and for some time kept both locations working. This proved too much of an effort as we were blessed with the birth of our child. So, as we were figuring out what was the best thing to do at the time, I started to think about something different. Maybe it was time to take a step back and choose a different path. In few months we were buying our tickets to Florida, USA for our first family vacation and also to be able to visit some tattoo shops and get to know some American tattoo artists as well. In 2014 I was lucky to meet Frank La Natra and his team at his shop and learned a lot by watching some of very best artists at work.

What got me into Realistic Colour tattooing was getting a piece from Phil Garcia. Since that day I started to focus on enhancing my techniques and improving my skills and knowledge about every detail around my work.

Every day I thrive to be better than the day before. Hopefully one day I will have the chance to tell Phil personally.. After returning to Portugal in 2015 I opened my new shop "Tattoo Gallery Espinho" at Espinho city, a beautiful surfing destination in the north of the country. I started to attend Tattoo Conventions in 2015 in Europe. The year after I did my first exhibit of Erotic Tattoo Art at the United Ink Tattoo Show in New York city, an achievement that I fought for a very long time to accomplish. Since 2016 I won some tattoo awards in best of colour, best of large and best of day in several different venues around Europe. I was also a Jury in some Tattoo Conventions. I found this both a challenge and exciting as I am able to analyse in great detail some great works of Art. My tattoo work is featured in some tattoo magazines as well as Portuguese news papers

Currently I develop my tattoos in the photo realistic style, mainly colour portraits of Tv, Movie and Music characters and also animals. Sometimes I like to do some black and grey as well. I’m currently sponsored by Pro-T-Ink, Must Tattoo Line and EZ Spain and everyday I feel blessed that I can have their support. These brands mean a lot to me as they trully help my work!
