The curtain has fallen on the 9th edition of the EUROVISIONS International Conference.

Over two intense days in Vienna, we moved through discussions on Public Value, closing with the ever-challenging question: “United by Music?”.

Researchers, professionals, students, fans, and curious minds came together, in person and online, to think critically, creatively, and collectively about Eurovision as a media phenomenon and a cultural space.

Vienna gave us conversations, debates, encounters, new ideas, and probably not enough sleep.

You can also access all conference sessions and content online through our Facebook and YouTube channels.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna - and online for making this 9th edition so special.
The EUROVISIONS team would also like to sincerely thank everyone who helped make this event possible.

See you at the next EUROVISIONS.

The 2026 edition of the EUROVISIONS International Conference continues in Vienna, Austria, with a second conference day dedicated to dialogue between scholars, artists, practitioners, and fans. Under the theme “Eurovisions: Celebrating 70 Years of Public Value!”, Day 2 explores how Eurovision has reflected technological innovation, democratic participation, representation, and societal transformation throughout its history.

📅 Full programme: https://www.eurovisions.eu

Seventy years after the first Eurovision Song Contest in Lugano in 1956, Eurovision remains a unique public media phenomenon at the intersection of entertainment, culture, and politics. The second conference day focuses especially on the ways in which Eurovision creates—and negotiates—public value.

The programme features three major roundtables. The first discusses the public value of Eurovision-related research and asks why academia should engage seriously with the contest and its wider cultural impact. The second roundtable reflects on “70 Years of Public Value”, bringing together experts and practitioners to discuss Eurovision’s contribution to broadcasting innovation, cultural participation, identity formation, and public service media. The third roundtable, “United by Music?”, explores whether music truly has the power to unite people in difficult and polarised times, featuring artists and Eurovision personalities reflecting on their own experiences within and beyond the contest.

The stream also includes a special presentation examining how the Eurovision Song Contest creates public value through the production of happiness, joy, and collective emotional experiences—highlighting Eurovision not only as entertainment, but also as a shared cultural ritual that fosters connection and belonging.

Join us for a day of reflection, exchange, and debate on Eurovision’s continuing role as a laboratory of public value in Europe and beyond.
