• MEDITERRANEA 20 - Borderless! Bienal de Jovens Criadores da Europa e do Mediterrâneo •
A artista chinesa Yun Zhang é Bacharel em Arte Mural pela Academia de Belas Artes de Tianjin e Mestre em Artes Visuais e Novas Linguagens Expressivas - Pintura pela Academia de Belas Artes de Florença. Atualmente faz doutoramento em Desenho na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa.
Desde sempre manteve uma ligação afectiva especial com as plantas, que são não só uma parte essencial da sua vida, mas também muitas vezes os temas centrais das suas pinturas, esculturas e vídeos animados.
Nas suas obras, as plantas são mais do que meros símbolos da natureza; estão imbuídas dos conceitos de criação de limites e percepção, tornando-se pontos de entrada fundamentais para explorar a relação entre os seres humanos e a natureza. Através da sua arte, Yun reflete sobre a forma como as plantas definem os seus próprios limites, percepcionam o que as rodeia e estabelecem ligações complexas com comunidades e ecossistemas.
Em “O Mundo Dentro e Fora da Janela” - obra que Yun traz para a MEDITERRANEA 20 - a artista procura transmitir a relação de fronteira entre humanos e plantas em espaços urbanos através da sua perspectiva única. Esta relação pode ser descrita como adversária ou mutuamente benéfica e interdependente. A obra aprofunda as ligações entre plantas e comunidades, bem como entre comunidades e plantas, oferecendo um vislumbre da transformação urbana e enfatizando a urgência e a necessidade da proteção ambiental.
Através da perspetiva das plantas como “seres perceptivos”, a autora revela a sua beleza e fragilidade, inspirando a reflexão sobre os desafios futuros: como integrar o verde na arquitetura, criar novos modelos de interpretação do ambiente atual e encorajar um futuro mais sustentável.
A MEDITERRANEA 20 - Borderless! acontece de 31 de maio a 4 de junho de 2025 em Nova Gorica/Gorizia. O evento é promovido pela Bjcem - Association Biennale des Jeunes Créateurs de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée em colaboração com a European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia e a associação ŠKUC.
A Bienal acontece desde 1985 em diferentes cidades da região Mediterrânica. A BJCEM - rede internacional com mais de 50 membros e parceiros na Europa, Médio Oriente e África, dentre eles o CPAI em Portugal - tem como missão apoiar os processos criativos de jovens artistas e dar-lhes oportunidades de mobilidade e de diálogo intercultural.

Yun Zhang, a Chinese artist, holds a Bachelor's degree in Mural Art from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and a Master's degree in Visual Arts and New Expressive Languages - Painting from the Florence Academy of Fine Arts. She is currently taking a PhD in Drawing at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
She has always had a special emotional connection with plants, which are not only an essential part of her life, but also often the central themes of her paintings, sculptures and animated videos.
In her works, plants are more than mere symbols of nature; they are imbued with the concepts of boundary-making and perception, becoming key entry points for exploring the relationship between humans and nature. Through her art, Yun reflects on how plants define their own boundaries, perceive their surroundings and establish complex links with communities and ecosystems.
In “The World Inside and Outside the Window” - a work that Yun brings to MEDITERRANEA 20 - the artist seeks to convey the boundary relationship between humans and plants in urban spaces through her unique perspective. This relationship can be described as adversarial or mutually beneficial and interdependent. The work delves into the connections between plants and communities, as well as between communities and plants, offering a glimpse into urban transformation and emphasizing the urgency and necessity of environmental protection.
Through the perspective of plants as “perceptive beings”, Yun reveals their beauty and fragility, inspiring reflection on future challenges: how to integrate greenery into architecture, create new models for interpreting the current environment and encourage a more sustainable future.
MEDITERRANEA 20 - Borderless takes place from May 31 to June 4, 2025 in Nova Gorica/Gorizia. The event is promoted by Bjcem - Association Biennale des Jeunes Créateurs de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée in collaboration with European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia and ŠKUC.
The Biennale has been held since 1985 in different cities in the Mediterranean region. BJCEM - an international network with more than 50 members and partners in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including CPAI in Portugal - has the mission of supporting the creative processes of young artists and giving them opportunities for mobility and intercultural dialogue.
