Deus e o Diabo na terra da Bienal

“Mas o que veio à luz nessa Bienal-maionese, talvez a edição final de como a conhecemos até agora? Antes de tudo, um show off das galerias: inacreditável – alguns pavilhões nacionais cujos artistas estão representados pelas maiores empresas do mundo – realizarem projetos tão ordinários: um verdadeiro exercício para alisar o pelo do poder, para passar diretamente de Veneza à casa de qualquer colecionador. Pouquíssimos os corajosos, quer dizer, os que trataram os próprios espaços como lugares de pesquisa e não para montar paredes a vender: o Japão, o Canadá, a Alemanha, a Bélgica, a Áustria.”

God and the Devil in the Land of the Biennial

“But what emerged from this mayonnaise-Biennale, perhaps the final edition as we have known it until now? First, a show-off by the galleries: unbelievable – some national pavilions whose artists are represented by the biggest companies in the world – carrying out such ordinary projects: a true exercise in smoothing the fur of power, to go directly from Venice to the home of any collector. Very few were the courageous ones, that is, those who treated their own spaces as places of research and not to assemble walls to be sold: Japan, Canada, Germany, Belgium, and Austria.”

Sarab, de Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim: A forma despida

“Caminhei por Alfama, passando pelas pequenas tascas que ladeiam a rua, a caminho de Sarab, a exposição de Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim – um dos artistas contemporâneos da primeira geração dos Emirados Árabes Unidos – na Galeria Perve.

O curador da exposição, Mo Reda, aborda a obra do artista através do conceito de sarab - que significa miragem -, permitindo que a incerteza inerente às pinceladas abra um duplo modo de perceção, essencial e formal. Sarab, o primeiro capítulo do tríptico And Thus He Crossed Over, estabelece uma ligação direta entre a migração e a recriação do eu.”

A exposição Sarab pode ser visitada na Galeria Perve até 6 de junho.

Sarab, by Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim: The Stripped Form

“I walked through Alfama, passing the small tascas that line the street, on my way to see Sarab, the exhibition by Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim - one of the first-generation contemporary artists of the United Arab Emirates - at Perve Gallery.
The exhibition curator, Mo Reda, approaches the artist’s work through the concept of sarab – which means mirage – allowing the uncertainty embedded in the brushstrokes to open a dual mode of perception, both essential and formal. Sarab, the first chapter of the triptych And Thus He Crossed Over establishes a direct connection between migration and the re-creation of the self.”

Sarab can be visited at Perve Gallery until June 6, 2026.

O stand da UMBIGO integrará a ArtsLibris, um projeto de feira especializado em publicações de artista, fotolivros, pensamento contemporâneo, autopublicação e edições digitais.

Na ARCOlisboa 2026, estarão disponíveis algumas das mais recentes edições da revista, bem como a Umbigo #95, desenvolvida em parceria com a Secção Cultural da Embaixada de Espanha em Portugal, em torno do tema Fronte(i)ras.

🗓️ From May 28 to 31, the UMBIGO team will be at Cordoaria Nacional for ARCOlisboa 2026.

The UMBIGO stand will be part of ArtsLibris, a fair project specializing in artists’ publications, photobooks, contemporary thought, self-publishing, and digital editions.

At ARCOlisboa 2026, some of the magazine’s most recent editions will be available, as well as Umbigo #95, developed in partnership with the Cultural Section of the Spanish Embassy in Portugal, around the theme of Borders.

Novo ciclo expositivo do

Numa fase de arranque definida pelo risco, pela diferença e um novo olhar curatorial, inauguraram a 21 de março, na cidade de Guimarães, três exposições distintas e de larga escala que iniciam o novo ciclo de programação do Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães (CIAJG), sob a direção artística de Miguel Wandschneider: Come di, de Jorge Molder; Back Outside, de Aidan Duffy e Artes Tradicionais Africanas na Coleção de José de Guimarães.

As três exposições podem ser visitadas no até 6 de setembro de 2026.

New exhibition cycle at CIAJG

In a launch phase defined by risk, innovation, and a fresh curatorial perspective, three distinct, large-scale exhibitions opened on March 21 in the city of Guimarães, marking the start of the new programming cycle at the José de Guimarães International Arts Center (CIAJG) under the artistic direction of Miguel Wandschneider: Come di, by Jorge Molder; Back Outside, by Aidan Duffy, and Artes Tradicionais Africanas na Coleção de José de Guimarães (Traditional African Art in the José de Guimarães Collection).

The three exhibitions can be visited at the Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães until September 6, 2026.
