De Volta a Casa - O dia de folga do Q**m.

Depois de ter participado num excelente workshop de panificação da MVC em 2022, decidi juntar-me à MVC, uma associação comunitária portuguesa dedicada a ajudar o próximo.

Através da Teresa Serrano, que lidera a Associação MVC, participei em caminhadas guiadas pelas Caldas da Rainha e conheci o trabalho extraordinário do Joaquim Sá ("Q**m") e da De Volta a Casa, o refeitório comunitário local. Há mais de 40 anos que Q**m fornece refeições a pessoas necessitadas — duas vezes por dia, todos os dias do ano. O seu compromisso com a comunidade é verdadeiramente inspirador.

Quando ouvi a história do Q**m pela primeira vez, soube que queria ajudar.

Em 2023, a MVC lançou o projeto "Dia de Folga do Q**m" e convidou-me para o coordenar. Nessa altura, tínhamos apenas uma pequena equipa de voluntários, mas juntos conseguimos dar ao Q**m um horário de almoço de folga por mês, enquanto ele continuava a preparar o jantar por conta própria.
Hoje, graças a uma equipa incrível de voluntários e padeiros caseiros dedicados, expandimos o projeto e agora podemos dar ao Q**m dois dias de folga por mês.
Nesses dias, os nossos voluntários preparam e cozinham o almoço, servem sumo e oferecem bolos caseiros aos clientes. Cada sessão custa aproximadamente 110€ em alimentos e mantimentos. Sempre que possível, também ajudamos o Q**m com despesas operacionais essenciais e contas de serviços públicos.
Para manter este apoio vital e continuar a dar ao Q**m a ajuda que ele merece, precisamos de angariar aproximadamente 500 a 600€ por mês.
Cada donativo, independentemente do valor, ajuda-nos a apoiar o Q**m, a manter este importante serviço comunitário e a garantir que as pessoas vulneráveis ​​continuam a receber uma refeição quente e uma receção calorosa.
Juntos, podemos fazer uma diferença real.

De Volta a Casa - Q**m’s day off.

After attending an excellent MVC bread-making workshop in 2022, I decided to join MVC, a Portuguese community association dedicated to helping others.
Through Teresa Serrano, who leads Associação MVC, I took part in guided walks around Caldas da Rainha and learned about the extraordinary work of Joaquim Sá ("Q**m") and De Volta a Casa, the local soup kitchen. For more than 40 years, Q**m has been providing meals to people in need—twice a day, every day of the year. His commitment to the community is truly inspiring.
When I first heard Q**m's story, I knew I wanted to help.
In 2023, MVC launched the "Dia de Folga do Q**m" (Q**m's Day Off) project and asked me to coordinate it. At the time, we had only a small team of volunteers, but together we were able to give Q**m one lunchtime off each month—while he continued to provide the evening meal himself.
Today, thanks to an incredible team of volunteers and dedicated home bakers, we have expanded the project and can now give Q**m two days off every month.
On those days, our volunteers prepare and cook lunch, serve juice, and provide homemade cakes for the clients. Each session costs approximately €110 in food and supplies. Whenever possible, we also help Q**m with essential operating expenses and utility bills.
To maintain this vital support and continue giving Q**m the help he deserves, we need to raise approximately €500–€600 per month.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps us support Q**m, sustain this important community service, and ensure that vulnerable people continue to receive a warm meal and a caring welcome.
Together, we can make a real difference.

Hi All...Due to a signficant health event with a member of Voltar-N-Band, sadly they will not be able to open the show for us. But there is good news. First, their band member will make a full recovery and they will back on stage in no time.....and more good news, the great Nelson Rodrigues and CORK will be taking their place!
