Celebrando un año más de excelencia musical, el Festival Casals reúne en Puerto Rico a artistas de todo el mundo del 23 de mayo al 6 de junio de 2026, honrando el legado y la pasión del maestro Pablo Casals. 🎶🇵🇷 La historia comenzó en la década de 1950, cuando el gobierno de Puerto Rico, con el apoyo del sector privado, puso en manos del maestro Pablo Casals los recursos necesarios para crear un f
estival internacional de música en esta tierra, ligada ya a él por vía materna. En 1957, junto a amigos y colaboradores como Alexander Schneider, Isaac Stern y Mieczyslaw Horszowski, el maestro Casals organizó la primera edición de este evento que desde entonces se celebra anualmente. Esa primera temporada, repleta de virtuosos, se dedicó totalmente a la música de Bach, Mozart y Schubert. Junto al violinista Isaac Stern y el pianista Mieczyslaw Horszowski, figuraron Rudolf Serkin, la soprano María Stader y los pianistas Eugene Istomin y Jesús María Sanromá. Posteriormente, muchos otros artistas del más alto calibre han participado gustosos en este evento, primero a invitación del maestro Casals y luego por el prestigio internacional que adquirió el Festival. Pablo Casals permaneció al frente del Festival hasta su muerte en 1973, cuando la responsabilidad recayó sobre su viuda, Marta Casals, como presidenta de un comité asesor. Luego la dirección artística ha pasado por pocas pero muy prestigiosas manos, como los maestros Jorge Mester, Odón Alonso, Mstislav Rostropovich, Krzysztof Penderecki, Elías López Sobá, Justino Díaz y actualmente el maestro Maximiano Valdés.

The Puerto Rico Casals Festival brings together annually world-class artists in thrilling performances of great works of classical music. The Festival’s history dates back to the 1950s, when the government of Puerto Rico, with the support of the private sector, placed in the hands of Maestro Pablo Casals the resources necessary to create an international music event on the island that was his mother’s birthplace. In 1957, together with such friends and collaborators as Alexander Schneider, Isaac Stern, and Mieczyslaw Horszowski, the maestro organized the first version of what was to become an annual event. That first festival, replete with virtuosi, was devoted exclusively to the music of Bach, Mozart, and Schubert. Performers joining violinist Isaac Stern and pianist Mieczyslaw Horszowski included Rudolf Serkin, soprano María Stader, and pianists Eugene Istomin and Jesús María Sanromá. Since then, many other artists of note have gladly participated in this event, first at the invitation of Maestro Casals and later due to the growing international prestige of the Festival. Casals remained at the helm of the Festival until his death in 1973, when responsibility for the program passed to his widow, Marta Casals, as head of an advisory committee. The artistic direction has passed through few but highly prestigious hands, such as those of maestros Jorge Mester, Odón Alonso, Mstislav Rostropovich, Krzysztof Penderecki, Elías López Sobá, Justino Díaz, and currently Maestro Maximiano Valdés.
