It was yesterday, just yesterday that I came to realize -and how ashamed I was- that somehow homophobia was so embedded -rather surreptitiously- in every thought that ever crossed my being up to that moment, to such an extent that I somehow -perhaps willingly to elude bringing any attention to me or avoiding any conflict- would not object to the many forms of homophobia I encountered daily. When I was a child and an adolescent, I thought that that was right and that I was wrong, so that I stop listening to my thoughts and adopted those thoughts to the point that I internalized homophobia and became homophobic as well and never condemned such behaviors. And so yesterday -just yesterday- I came to the complete realization that I am right and they were wrong. And I don’t want to be around or have as friend someone who belittles who I am and my essence as a human being. For homophobia is simply VIOLENCE against some people. And violence -in any form- is immoral and degrading. As the church would say, it’s a sin. The shame doesn’t belong to the oppressed, but definitely to the oppressors.
