DEAL NEWS 🇪🇸📚🇵🇱
We are thrilled to announce an 8-book deal for Javier Marías’s works, just secured with ArtRage on behalf of Casanovas & Lynch Literary Agency.
This marks the beginning of a major relaunch of the author’s masterpieces in the Polish market.

Krzysztof Cieślik at ArtRage says:
In adulthood, it’s rare to find writers who truly matter to us; those whose new books we eagerly anticipate not out of nostalgia but from genuine fascination. For me, as the editor-in-chief of ArtRage, such a writer was Javier Marías. I regret not having had the chance to meet him, but the opportunity to publish his works feels like a dream come true – there is no other author I would be more excited to publish or, if I may say so, whom I’d love so dearly.
I am thrilled about the titles we will be reissuing, as well as the stories and essays that have yet to be translated into Polish. All of this will be presented to our readers in translations by the finest translators who have previously worked on Marías’s works. We believe he is the greatest Hispanophone writer of the last half a century, a sentiment echoed by a recent ranking from “El País.” We are proud to welcome him to our publishing house. Bienvenido a casa, Javier.

🇮🇳📖🇵🇱 Polish translation rights to 2025 International Booker Prize-winning HEART LAMP by Banu Mushtaq pre-empted by W.A.B./Foksal! 🏆

We’re thrilled to announce that Polish rights to Heart Lamp, the 2025 International Booker Prize-winning collection of short stories by Banu Mushtaq, have been acquired in a pre-empt by Elżbieta Kalinowska at W.A.B., an imprint of Foksal Publishing Group. The deal was negotiated by Piotr Wawrzeńczyk at Book/lab Literary Agency on behalf of Stefan Tobler at And Other Stories.

Elżbieta Kalinowska, fiction and nonfiction editor at W.A.B., comments:

“I am happy and honored that W.A.B. will be the Polish publisher of Heart Lamp by Banu Mushtaq. This is an important and unique book in every way—thematically, formally, and linguistically. It is a committed book, because by writing about the daily lives of women and girls in Muslim communities in southern India, Mushtaq defends women’s rights and protests against all forms of oppression. To quote the words of Fiammetta Rocco, administrator of the International Booker Prize: ‘The book speaks to our times and to the ways in which many are silenced.’

It is great to publish a Booker Prize-winning book again, and this time it is especially pleasing for us—but it will also be a challenge. It will be a book that opens up to the reader entirely new worlds and a society that remains undiscovered in Poland.”

🇵🇱🇳🇱DEAL NEWS!

We’re thrilled to announce the first translation deal for THE END (Koniec) by Marta Hermanowicz, whom Book/lab represents abroad on behalf of ArtRage. Dutch rights have been sold to Mark Pieters at Van Oorschot, in an exclusive submission by Piotr Wawrzeńczyk. We can’t wait for more international publishers to discover Marta’s extraordinary novel! This is just the beginning, and we’re so happy for the Author and her Polish publishers. The novel will be translated by Małgorzata Briefjes.

Marta Hermanowicz: The decision of a foreign publisher to select a book for publication is always an honor. But to be published by Van Oorschot—a publishing house with such an extraordinary history and unwavering commitment to genuine literature—is a particular distinction for me.

Krzysztof Cieślik, Editor-in-Chief of ArtRage Publishing: To say this is a big moment for us would be an understatement—this is the first time one of our books will be published abroad. We’re thrilled that The End will be released by such a renowned publisher as Van Oorschot. Congratulations to Marta, and we’re cheering on Małgorzata Briefjes, who has a fascinating task ahead of her!

THE END (Koniec)
Metaphysical and blasphemous novel about the tragedy of war that never meets a clean end with a peace treaty. The war goes on, residing within its victims who carry it from one generation to the next.

Malwina, an exceptionally sensitive girl, experiences her grandmother’s wartime memories in her dreams. This makes her exist in two parallel realities at once: the 1940s Eastern borderlands and Siberia along the 1990s Poland. Those realities seep and bleed through one another, making Malwina a catcher of her survivor grandmother’s dreams, or perhaps a dybbuk who gives voice to the dead. To Malwina, the war persists, haunting her day and night alike. Poignant and piercing, Koniec is an impressively well-crafted prose.

🎵DEAL NEWS 🇬🇧📖🇵🇱

We’re thrilled to announce that Polish translation rights for Ian Leslie’s JOHN AND PAUL: A LOVE STORY IN SONGS have been acquired by Natalia Patorska at SQN, following a highly competitive five-house auction. The deal was brokered by Piotr Wawrzeńczyk at Book/lab Literary Agency on behalf of Vanessa Kerr at Aevitas Creative Management UK. Congratulations to all involved!

A majestic biography of two young geniuses who merged their talents to create one of the greatest bodies of music in history.

John & Paul begins in 1957, when two teenagers in suburban Liverpool meet and decide to play rock n’roll together. It ends twenty-three years later, when one of them is murdered. In between, we see them become global stars, create countless indelible songs, and play a central role in shaping the modern world.

Lennon and McCartney were more than friends, rivals or collaborators. They were intimates who both had the fabric of their world ruptured at a young age, and who longed to make emotional connections; with each other, and with audiences. The pop song was a vessel into which they poured feelings of grief and euphoria and everything in between. When they couldn’t speak what they felt, they sang it. After the break-up of their group, they maintained a musical dialogue at a distance, in songs full of recrimination, regret, and affection.
Ian Leslie traces the twists and turns of their relationship through the music it produced and offers rich insights into the nature of creativity, collaboration and human connection. Drawing on recently released footage and recordings, this is a startlingly fresh take on two of the greatest icons in music history.

Leslie’s majestic and wildly enjoyable biography will make us see and hear Lennon and McCartney anew.

PRAISE:

The first new Beatles story in decades - and the one that will make your heart burst. -- Caitlin Moran

The most moving and revelatory book on Lennon and McCartney I have ever read - so joyous, so sad. About the alchemy of youth, of friendship, of love. I just wish I could enjoy the experience of reading it for the first time again. -- Tom Holland

I was enthralled by John & Paul - one of the most insightful books I've ever read on creativity, genius, and collaboration. -- James Shapiro

Leslie is one of those thinkers who can spin something smart and important out of just about anything . . . Eclectic and stimulating. -- Nick Hornby

I don't think anyone is writing about The Beatles as well as Ian Leslie is right now. -- Pete Paphides

A triumph, full of insight and revelation: the story of the most successful 20th century songwriting partnership in 43 songs. -- Jon Savage

No writer has ever gotten to the heart of the John/Paul saga as brilliantly as Ian Leslie. This extraordinary book sheds light on a cultural mystery: how two nowhere boys from Liverpool formed a teenage bond that transformed the future, and in so many ways, invented it. John and Paul is a bold, original, empathetic revelation of why our world is still fascinated by this friendship-and still trying to live up to it. -- Rob Sheffield ― author of DREAMING THE BEATLES

Of all the creative partnerships of the past century, none seems more resonant or permanent than that of the two Liverpool boys who met as teenagers, collaborated for a dozen years, and altered the world's expectations of what popular art can accomplish. Ian Leslie's new book is the best study of that friendship, from improbable beginning to melancholy end - and of all the songs produced between - that we have ever had. -- Adam Gopnik ― staff writer for THE NEW YORKER and author of PARIS TO THE MOON

Fans will love this fresh, insightful approach to the band. ― Kirkus Reviews

Ian Leslie has done the impossible, and breathed new life into one of the world's most studied bands. -- Josiah Gogarty ― GQ

This thoughtful, fresh look at the creative collaboration of Lennon and McCartney turns the clichés on their heads. McCartney turns out to be more ruthless and caustic than you think; Lennon is more uncertain and vulnerable. The book is also a testament to the revolutionary brilliance of the Beatles. -- Books to read in 2025 ― Sunday Times

Shining fresh light on one of, if not the most well-known musical partnership of all time is no mean feat, but that's exactly what Ian Leslie pulls off with John & Paul. -- Books to read in 2025 ― Independent

There's major excitement in our house about Ian Leslie's forthcoming John and Paul . . . Leslie is such a good writer and thinker. -- Books to read in 2025 ― Guardian

This fresh and insightful approach into a band we all know and love will have you hooked. -- Books to read in 2025 ― Elle

At the heart of the Fab Four stood the two teenage friends. Leslie tells the story "the love and jealousy between the two geniuses behind The Beatles". -- Books to read in 2025 ― Financial Times

🍊DEAL NEWS 🇮🇹📖🇵🇱

We’re delighted to announce that Polish translation rights for Milena Palminteri’s LIKE THE BITTER ORANGE (Come l’arancio amaro) have been sold to Weronika Jacak at , following a heated auction. The deal was brokered by Diana Hasooni-Abood on behalf of Valentina Mazza and LeeAnn Bortolussi at . Congratulations to all parties involved!

‘My Carlotta, of the bitter orange I only know the thorns and they no longer hurt me. But the scent of its white flower is yours, it is that of freedom.’ What is the point of being young and full of plans if you were born in the wrong time? Three extraordinary protagonists face their greatest challenge: finding the meaning of being women in a world that would like to choose for them. Nardina, sweet and patient, who dreams of graduating but ends up trapped in the role of wife. Sabedda, wild and proud, who wishes she could decide her own future but is too poor to do so. Carlotta, proud and determined, who would like to become a lawyer in a world where only males think they can practise the profession. And a secret, which sinks in the night when their destinies are joined forever. Between the 1920s and the 1960s, Sabedda, Nardina and Carlotta fight and love against the backdrop of a changing world, which goes through Fascism and war, and arrives at the new hope of reconstruction. For each of them, life has harsh trials in store, but also the strength of a love greater than the judgement of men. Starting from a true story, Milena Palminteri debuts with a mature and overwhelming novel, written in a nuanced language, populated by characters memorable for the painful pride with which they embrace their destinies.

Milena Palminteri has worked all her life as a conservator in notarial archives. At the beginning of the 1980s, while she was managing the Salerno archives, among the papers of an old file she came across a story that was begging to be told, that of a newborn baby carried in a basket and a mother accused of having bought her baby. Over the years, other stories have been woven into that story, culminating in her first novel, Come l’arancio amaro.

DEAL NEWS 📯

We’re thrilled to announce that Polish translation rights for Wolfgang Munchau’s KAPUT: THE END OF THE GERMAN MIRACLE have been acquired by Zaneta Czerniakowska at . The deal was brokered by Martyna Kowalewska-Martycz at Book/lab Literary Agency, on behalf of Emily Randle at & Literary Consultancy, for . Congratulations to everyone involved!

Until recently, Germany appeared to be a paragon of economic and political success. Angela Merkel was widely seen as the true ‘leader of the free world’, and Germany’s export-driven economic model seemed to deliver prosperity. But recent events – from Germany’s dependence on Russian gas to its car industry’s delays in the race to electric – have undermined this view.

In Kaput, Wolfgang Münchau argues that the weaknesses of Germany’s economy have, in fact, been brewing for decades. The neo-mercantilist policies of the German state, driven by close connections between the country’s industrial and political elite, have left Germany technologically behind over-reliant on authoritarian Russia and China – and with little sign of being able to adapt to the digital realities of the 21st century. It is an essential read for anyone interested in the future of Europe’s biggest economy.

Wolfgang Münchau is a journalist and commentator who focuses on the European economy and the European Union. He is director of leading news service Eurointelligence and a columnist for the New Statesman.

‘His critique of the German model couldn’t be more timely … An astonishing read … Dry humour lends his economic analysis levity and accessibility’ - Katya Hoyer, The Times

POST FESTIVE DEAL NEWS ✨🇳🇴📖🇵🇱

We’re thrilled to announce what promises to be the most anticipated Christmas story of 2025!

Polish readers can look forward to Ingvild H. Rishøi’s BRIGHTLY SHINING and WINTER STORIES, as the translation rights have been sold to Eliza Kasprzak-Kozikowska at Znak Koncept/Wydawnictwo Znak

This two-book deal, brokered at auction, was handled by Piotrek Wawrzeńczyk at Book/lab Literary Agency, representing Karin Ekblom at Paloma Agency.

Brightly Shining is a tale about a father who does his best but not enough, about a sister who tries to fill his shoes, and a daughter who never stops hoping. It is about the reality of addiction but also the power of dreams and believing in the kindness of strangers. With an unfaltering loyalty to the child’s perspective, Norwegian cult writer Ingvild H. Rishøi gives us the world through the eyes of her unforgettable young protagonist Ronja: naïve yet pragmatic, hopeful yet dark.

With her sparse yet dazzling prose and unflinching social pathos, Ingvild H. Rishøi has been compared to Astrid Lindgren, H.C. Andersen and Charles Dickens. Published simultaneously in Norway, Sweden and Denmark in the winter of 2021, it was instantly deemed a modern classic. Brightly Shining is a wonderous masterpiece, a Christmas story for our time where hope and magic are woven into the fabric of a painful narrative that shows our society at its most vulnerable.

Mark your calendars: the Polish premiere of BRIGHTLY SHINING is scheduled for fall 2025, perfectly setting the stage for the holiday season!

“There is real magic in this charming novel about care, community, and the kindness of strangers. It is a deeply affecting story, beautifully told, that is sure to touch the hearts of many readers.”
– Douglas Stuart, Booker Prize-winning author of Shuggie Bain and Young Mungo

“Ingvild Rishøi’s Brightly Shining is a dazzling contemporary fable of hardship and grit about two sisters who refuse to lose hope. Curl up with it for instant hygge and a warming of the heart.”—Lily King, author of Writers & Lovers

Zaczął się Nowy Rok, a ja nadal nie nagrałam dla Was zapowiedzi, za co bardzo przepraszam i obiecuję poprawę! Tymczasem zdradzę, co ukaże się w lutym!
🔵
12 lutego do rąk czytelników trafi pierwsza duńska Pauza!
🔵
„Metry na sekundę” to opowieść o wkraczaniu w nowe i nieznane miejsce, o relacjach międzyludzkich, małych społecznościach, dylematach i krętych ścieżkach społecznych koterii.
🔵
„Mistrzyni ironii!”
„Weekendavisen”
🔵
„Książka roku. (5/5 gwiazdek)”
„Jyllandsposten”
🔵
„Czysta przyjemność: Stine Pilgaard stworzyła doskonałą komedię o normalności.”

Karolina Sulej's PERSONAL THINGS sold to 🇺🇦 Ukraine and 🇩🇪 Germany!

It’s official - we are excited to share Ukrainian cover design to Karolina Sulej’s extraordinary reportage PERSONAL THINGS that soon will be published in Ukraine by , translated by Andrij Saweneć. Furthermore, German translation rights were sold to Maike Nedo at .linksverlag / by our great co-agent Nina Sillem. We simply cannot wait to see both editions hitting the shelves in 2025 🎊

PERSONAL THINGS by Karolina Sulej (shortlisted to the prestigious Nagroda im. Ryszarda Kapuścińskiego / Ryszard Kapuscinski Literary Reportage Prize) documents - in an incredibly revealing, human, moving, original and captivating way - the story of the clothes in the Holocaust.

Clothes, or fashion, as a window into the past, into people’s lives, into History, even into the way History is presented throughout the decades.

Based on conversations with conservationists and museum archivists specialized in clothes, as well as historians and first-hand witnesses, PERSONAL THINGS proves that so much remains unknown about the darkest period in the 20th century, and how important it is to tell the story. What do the clothes from the concentration and extermination camps tell us? What did they mean to those who wore them? How have they contributed to the collective memory and how has the historical narrative changed depending on how they were kept, cataloged, shared? Enter a fascinating historical account where clothing, history and human stories help shed new light on History, and how it has been presented to us.

Karolina Sulej (1983) is a doctoral student at the Institute of Polish Culture at the University of Warsaw, where she works in the Holocaust Remembrance Research Group, and an expert on fashion history and author and co-author of several books. In her free time, she travels and sails with her husband, a photographer and a skipper, Mateusz Kubik, and has three gray cats.
