„Blich”

Tuesday - Saturday
12 PM - 6 PM

The exhibition’s title, Blich, derives from the Polish word for a bleachfield – an outdoor area where canvases are spread across the ground and whitened by sunlight. Concurrently, Blich is the name of an area in Krzywcza, Palczak’s hometown on the Polish-Ukrainian border. The rural setting is a constant point of reference in the artist’s practice, fuelled by customs and rituals that he meticulously stages – or envisages – to pierce the somber silence of his surroundings.

The exhibition includes new works painted on marble, depicting eels, blood, and carcasses. Accenting uncanny subjects, the rural landscape becomes a space for existential reflection, the passage of time, and instability.

Last September, Palczak held his first institutional exhibition at Kunsthalle Zurich. A DISTANZ publication was released alongside the exhibition, featuring texts by Kirsty Bell and Krzysztof Kościuczuk.

VISIT US THIS WEEKEND AT ART WARSAW

Paweł Althamer

Art Warsaw Villa Róż📍Aleja Róż 1, Warsaw

Friday, May 22nd — Sunday, May 24th
12 PM - 7 PM

For this year’s edition of Art Warsaw, we will exhibit a series of ceramic sculptures by Paweł Althamer. The works derive from the artist’s meticulous observation of everyday life, portraying pedestrians he encounters in Warsaw: commuters, couriers, young people hanging out, passers-by, and people absorbed in the city’s private rituals. Occupied by mundane gestures – staring at their screens, waiting, walking, or traveling to work – these figures become quiet portraits of the urban fabric.

Jasmine Gregory (b. 1987, Washington D.C.) draws on language, abstraction, and unconventional modes of display to examine the social and aesthetic agreements that shape ideas of wealth, property, and taste. Working with contradictions in capitalist systems, paradox and satire serve as apparatuses for contemplating these patterns. Gregory is captivated by “a certain lack of meaning”. The titles of the works, for example, ‘I Don’t Want to Be Cremated. I Want My Body to Be Stuffed Like Chanel’s First Bag’, imbued with material nihilism — the rhinestones, hair, and glitter are attached to a hollow shoebox that feels simultaneously alluring, ironic, and bleak.

Jasmine Greogry (ur. 1987 w Waszyngtonie) wykorzystuje język, abstrakcję i niekonwencjonalne sposoby prezentacji, aby zbadać społeczne i estetyczne konwencje, które kształtują wyobrażenia o bogactwie, nadmiaru i guście. Operując na wewnętrznych sprzecznościach systemów kapitalistycznych, artystka wykorzystuje paradoks i ironię jako narzędzia refleksji nad tymi wzorcami. Gregory fascynuje „pewien brak znaczenia”, który przekształca w formę i treść dzieła. Tytuły jej prac; “I Don’t Want to Be Cremated. I Want My Body to Be Stuffed Like Chanel’s First Bag” (“Nie chcę być skremowana. Chcę, żeby moje ciało wypchano jak pierwszą torebkę Chanel”), sygnalizują materialny nihilizm obecny w tych realizacjach — dżetki, włosy i brokat przymocowane do pustego pudełka po butach tworzą obiekty równocześnie kuszące, ironiczne i ponure.

On View: Wilhelm Sasnal ‘Grey Eyes’ at Espace Louis Vuitton München

Marking the 20th anniversary of the Espaces Louis Vuitton and the 10th anniversary of the Fondation Louis Vuitton’s Hors-les-murs programme, Espace Louis Vuitton München presents an exhibition devoted to the work of Wilhelm Sasnal.

Grey Eyes brings together works from the past two decades, drawn from both the Fondation Louis Vuitton Collection and the artist’s studio. Selected by Sasnal himself, the exhibition places intimate images in tension with broader associations. The recurring motif of the eye prompts a reflection on what it means to see in a world saturated with images.
