Painting and Sewing

Painting and Sewing Do something for yourself, especially if your life isn't easy, it will pay you off. Have faith in yourself, it will help you to face everyday's life. The sewing.

You will gain new skills, friends, abilities, develop and gain new experinces and satsifaction. For those who don’t know me I would like to take a moment and introduce myself. I am a mother of 27 years old autistic son, who was born just after I graduated with my master ‘s in Visual Journalism. Ever since, I was taking care of my son, barely worked, because taking care of my son was very much time

consuming. My whole life was dictated by his needs and circulated around him. Three years later his sister came to this world. My hands and my mind were doubled occupied. Now, when my son is able to function more independebly, I can finally think about myself and do something for myself. The painting. Nearly two years ago I signed up for Professional Painting Course but was attending it with breaks due to Covid. In order to start painting I was told I must learn how to draw. I absolutely didn’t want to; I wasn’t fond of drawing, nor I never could do it well, but I was convinced by the instuctor that I must do it. About 6 weeks later I started to draw with oil pastels. I was shocked and surprised with the final effect. Soon later the course stopped for about half a year. In September of 2021 I finally started to paint. My first choice of media were oil paints. I felled in love with them. Again, I set the bar very high for myself because I painted a portrait of my husband (the wedding anniversary was approaching), and I wanted to give him something special. And this is how my painting adventure started. Exactly a year ago (August 2021), my husband brought home a sewing machine which was stored in our basement. The machine belonged to his late mother. At that time our dining room chairs needed new covers, because they were teared off by our cat. To buy new chairs or covers was a little too pricey so I thought I will sew them myself. My husband had some knowledge about how to sew and how the machine works, and he gave me a short lesson. I was fascinated with it. It was my very first time in my life when I sat by the sewing machine. Instead of starting with some easy project I went into deep water right away. I drew a pattern, cut out old, velvet curtains and voila! Few days later we had new chairs. I got hooked on the sewing bug and I must admit that sewing is addictive. On this page I will be showing my creations, not to show off my work but to show you and to tell you that regardless of the age you can do it and you should do it, too. You never know what abilities are hidden deeply inside of you. After you discover them, you will feel unfogatable satisfaction.

Last year was dedicated to sew mostly dresses. This year, I decided to sew blouses 👚. Through the year, I bought many pretty fabrics, either pure cotton, natural silk, or flannel. Each piece was washed out, ironed, and is waiting its turn in the wardrobe. I also went through my Burda magazines and selected the blouses I like and combined with the fabric that would fit best.
Today, I present the first one, made of pure cotton, an extremely simple but very comfy blouse. I like very much how well it goes with my trousers. Of course, I deepened the neckline 1,5 cm 😉, and I didn't double the fabric for sleeves, so they would be thicker, as it was in the pattern.

Last week, I showed my very springy set partially inspired by Burda Vintage from the 60s. Today, I present another set, 100% vintage. The pattern has no number and is called Jacky, as Jacqueline Kennedy. I had in my stash thick silk. The design on a fabric - at least to me - looked like vintage, and I knew I would use it for a dress found in Burda Vintage. I had two pieces of the fabric, so I wasn't limited to sew only a dress. I picked the pattern because I really liked its simple coat and the addition of cotton-velvet. The dress was also trimmed with it. The only thing I had to change was a neckline (I usually change the neckline if it's very high). I really like how it turned out, but I still have to work on the velvet trimming around the dress's neckline.
For the lining in both - a dress and a coat - I used cotton raw material, which I also had in my stash.

I knew it would be only one shot, no place for buying more, simply that there is no more. This piece I bought about 25 - 30 years ago in an American store, probably in Virginia Beach, VA.
The inspiration was Burda Vintage with patterns from the 60s. Back then, the new era for very feminine, short/mini dresses came, but with no open necks. I chose a model from 1969 designed by Andre Courreges, who was inspired by the whole cosmic era of the 1960s, but especially Neil Armstrong, who landed on Moon on July 20th, 1969. This particular date is also important to me. My parents were already expecting me, and dad got for me from the US Embassy in Warsaw, Poland, a pin, one of 50 that was made especially for the occasion. My dad died two years later, and I cherish this special gift a lot.
Courreges, in all his patterns, had characteristic applications that looked like they were coming from the space (the circle). I omitted it in my dress. I also made a deep neck because I don't feel well in no neck.
For the dress, I used only 1/3 of the fabric. So, from the rest, I decided to make a spring coat with a lining from a pattern found in Burda 2023 magazine. So, this is how old meets new. Hope it matches. I love it. In the coat pattern, I only changed cuffs, so I can roll up my sleeves.
Coat: pure, thick cotton, lining: pure cotton batiste.
I still have some larger cuts for a.....and yes, 8 days ago we had summer temperatures, today it feels like it's winter again.

My last post concerned a kitty dress 😺 👗 that I sew in observance of the love of my life birthday. Back then, I mentioned that I found the pattern while looking for a dress for my own little b-day that took place on March 1st 🎂 🥳 .
Since I am still pretty new into sewing, many of my creations I'm making for the very first time. Today's dress was definitely one of them.
In one of my favorite warehouses with fabrics, where I usually buy big pieces of leftovers, I spotted these two stretch cotton velvet; deep turquoise and light turquoise. I knew right away they would be a perfect match for a dress I already picked.
The dress was extremely easy to sew and I finished working on it very fast. The thing that brings attention to it is a vollant collar. First, I made it 5 cm bigger because I was afraid that it won't be so decorative, but very quickly, I changed my mind and returned to the original size.
Even though the dress's shape is feminine, the color is pretty, the dress overall seemed too plain, too sad, at least to me. To make it a little bit alive, I bought two different pure cotton laces in matching colors, the only ones they had in the warehouse where I get my sewing supplies. At home, I was trying different arrangements until I found the one I liked. Additionally, I made a belt - which design was only in my head - with quite big "bells" on both ends of the binding. Of course the dress can be worn with or without the belt.

P.S. I already added bias tape at front and back of a neckline.

Because of the World Cat 🐈 😻 🐈‍⬛️ Day (Feb. 17th) I am bringing to you my very kitty dress.
Please forgive me, but it will be a long post.
As a journalist who has never worked in his profession, sometimes I have to give vent to all the thoughts swirling in my head and put them on paper.
Anyway, on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 13th), I decided I would sew a dress that must be ready by Friday the 16th, in observance of my husband's birthday 🎂. While looking for a dress for my own upcoming birthday and birthday party 🎉 I saw one that immediately brought my attention. Very classy and elegant. I even had a dilemma which dress should I pick for my own celebration 🤔
Suggested by Burda fabric that was supposed to be thick and a little elastic, so it would hold the form. "I already have this kind of fabric in my stash." The fabric was bought in an Italian stock place. Most of the fabrics there were solid, dark colors and mostly wool, so this one was shining on a shelf, asking for attention. When I learned the price, I saddened and resigned from buying it. The next morning, I woke up, and I was still thinking about those adorable, original cats. My family and I we all are cat lovers. I went back to the store and bought a few meters.
Still on Tuesday, I copied the pattern, cut it out, all together 13 pieces 🙀, as well as the fabric. On Wednesday afternoon, I had half of the dress done. On Thursday, I had a little more free time, and I was able to finish my dress.
I think it's the very first time where I didn't change anything in the pattern :)
First of all, I kept the length even though I don't like long dresses. I kept ¾ sleeves and even zipper that is 60 cm long. Usually, I get a shorter one :) Often, I don't need to sew zipper at all, but this time, I wanted to do everything by the book. The only thing I omitted was lining because in case of my great quality, thick fabric, it wasn't necessary. Because I own only a regular sewing machine, not an overlock, usually I finish the seams with the cotton trim, and this is what I did this time, too.
The dress had its premiere during hubby's birthday dinner in the restaurant.

The fabric was bought in the Pakistanian store in Copenhagen. Buying it had no idea how I would use it. The owner of the store sold it a little cheaper because I bought the rest. Suggested pants didn't fit my style.
Those two vests are the first clothes I sewn for my two beloved men in my life. They were ready in December.
Both vests have bowties, and both have pure cotton, black lining. My son was wearing his vest while playing his piece on grand piano during Zobacz Więcej Final.
My hubby got it as a Christmas gift 🎁 😍.
I didn't have a ready pattern, so I traced existing vests on a redrawing paper, making my own patterns.

The fabric was waiting for its turn for over a year. The pattern was chosen a little less than a year ago. Finally, last week, after not sewing for nearly a month, I made this dream jacket. The main fabric is wool, and the undercoat that I fall in love from the first sight 😍 ❤️, is 70% cotton and 30% silk. The jacket, surprisingly, was easy to sew. I was especially proud of myself when I actually understood most Burda directions (for the first time) and followed them. The jacket - even though it's my usual size - seems to be a little too big, but it doesn't bother. It called for six front buttons and three holes. I decided to omit holes, I don't even know if I would use them. All the seamlines I finished with cotton bias binding.
I really like the big round collar, which is quite unique.

In the huge pile of stock fabrics, I dug up this boucle wool mix . I loved how it looked and loved the color, and there was just enough for a sweater. At home, from another stock, this time Burda magazines, I just had to pick the right design. I falled in love with this pattern right away. I reconstructed the pattern a little bit by widening the bottom part. Because the fabric is very stretchy, the sleeves are big, and I love them this way.

Summer is over, so for a season, I stopped sewing lighter dresses. Besides, in my garderobe, I had only two warmer ones. For a long time, I wanted to try to make one with creases at front. In an old issue, I found one with my favorite kind of neckline, but with short sleeves. Sleeveless or shortsleeves are not a problem anymore. Actually, it's exciting to go through hundreds of pages of different Burdas to look for those that will match best.
The fabric is extremely pleasant in touch, thick, pure viscose.
Lately, the weather is rainy, and days are short and grey, and my hubby doesn't take pictures of me outside anymore. Pictures are taken at home and the only place is at front of the front door is boring and the light is poor.
In this case, I still posed at the mentioned place but I replaced the busy background with the solid one. Unfortunately, it slightly blurred the edges.

Don't I love this dress. I am willing to say that this is probably my new favorite fashion.
Again, I modified the pattern, added fancy sleeves (reduced by half), and deepened the neckline about 10 cm. I don't like dresses where the neckline is finished, just under the neck, how it was in this case. Other than this, the pattern is very unique because the left side of the front is different from the right side, and this is what coutched my attention. The pattern called for underskirt, but I omitted it. The fabric, 100% thick satin viscose, didn't require it.
What else is special, in my buttons' treasure box, I found very old ones, which my mom used for a few for creations, knitted for me when I was a kid.
Don't have too many pictures as I was wearing the dress during our wedding anniversary celebration which was still in September.

Bought this fabric, 100% cotton knit jersey, 6 months ago. Soon later, I decided what I would use it for. Finally, I realized my idea the day before yesterday. The project was probably the easiest I have done so far. It had only three simple parts, but it was my very first time to use a cotton knit jersey, and I had to learn how the fabric "behaves" and how I should treat it. I like how the blouse turned out overall, but next time, I would use the sweater kind knit fabric.

I almost forgot to publish this post. The set of dresses👗was still done in late summer for my very dear friend and her three precious daughters 🩷 . As you already may know, I love to do things for other people. This time, three sisters, 6m, 8 years, and 11 years old, got new dresses. The main fabric (the "quilt" one) is batiste viscose, and the pink fabric is 100% cotton. Oh, and there's one more, black one with pink dots, also batiste viscose. From this one, I sewn an oversized dress for my friend, the girls' mom, and a bowtie for dad.
Each dress has all three fabrics and some special elements. The smallest has a zipper instead of buttons, which were in an original pattern.
I believe that the color is a perfect match with the ladies indian complexion.
I am not a pro, I am a self learner, but again, I put all my heart into this project, and I'm aware it's not perfect, but hope that's not all what counts.
