Between Geometry and Nature.

Once dimensions have been established, there comes a stage when the material begins to recover its own voice.

The hand-shaped edges are not intended to conceal previous decisions. They serve as a reminder that stone was something more than a raw material long before the project itself existed.

This rare garnet-bearing stone carries a story far older than the object it will eventually become.

Today, only another chapter is being added.

Every object begins with the material.

Before form, proportion and detail emerge, there is a moment of decision.

Stone cutting is one of those stages rarely visible in the finished work, yet it has a profound influence on the object's future character.

At Kostylo Atelier, stone is never merely a base. It becomes part of the composition itself, creating a relationship between geology, light and sculptural form.

Each cut reveals the internal structure of the material and marks the beginning of the next stage in the creation of a future collectible object.

Oak Leaf Diptych I
Some materials preserve memory longer than people do.
The foundation of this sculpture is a rare garnet-bearing glacial gneiss containing natural garnets visible throughout the stone's structure. The material was personally recovered and hand-shaped using a traditional stone hammer, preserving traces of geological history and the making process itself.
Above it rests an oak leaf sculpture finished with an aged bronze patina.
The work explores the meeting of two different records of time.
One preserved within the geology of the stone.
The other preserved within the form of the leaf.

This is the first work from the emerging Oak Leaf Diptych.

A single line, a few precise strikes, and the material begins to reveal what it can become.

Not every stage of the process remains visible in the completed object. Perhaps that is precisely what makes these stages the most interesting.

Erratic Stone in its first stage of work.
A glacial erratic, carried by ice, is opened through wet cutting.
Water reveals the arrangement of strata, tensions, mineral script - the geological memory of the stone.
The first edge does not define the form.
It sets the direction.
It becomes the beginning of composition, the atelier’s first gesture, the moment of transition from nature into sculpture.
Erratic Stone enters a process that will unfold step by step - in silence, precision, and the discipline of working with material.

The tsarist figural knife - an object in which every fragment was shaped directly in metal. Hand-chasing, tool-work, and light create a texture that cannot be reproduced in any other way.
The double headed tsarist eagle crowned, forming the finial, was first explored as a sculptural model in artistic plasteline. The final form is not a cast - it is the result of gradual, physical work in metal.
Every detail is a trace of process.
Every surface carries the tension of the material.
A form that exists only through manual intervention.

The figural letter opener shaped as a crowned tsarist double-headed eagle is one of the signature objects created at Kostylo Atelier. Handcrafted and gilded with 23-karat gold, it was designed as a miniature sculpture where every detail carries meaning.
Wings, claws, crown and blade proportions form a cohesive composition, merging historical symbolism with a contemporary approach to craftsmanship. Measuring 32.5 cm by 6 cm, the piece is built in layers, with attention to texture and light.
An artefact made entirely by hand - from the first sketch to the final gilding. Sculptural intensity meets functional purpose, creating an object with a truly distinctive presence.

The crowned eagle as a ceremonial figure.
Cast as a single brass volume and fully gilded in 23-karat gold, the object reveals chiselled details of feathers, crown and beak - a tension between organic form and the restrained blade line.
The dark-green case with gilded hinges, lined with white satin, acts as micro-architecture - part of the composition rather than packaging.
This piece belongs to a series in which functional tools become figural objects. They do not serve a function - they elevate a gesture.

KALMARS - a contemporary modular object in 23K gold

Kalmars is my own atelier term for a contemporary modular object created at Kostylo Atelier as a response to the need for a new aesthetic in workspace design.
It is not a historical inkwell - it is a new atelier category, designed for fountain pens, writing instruments and a smartphone.

Every element is handcrafted: from the first sketch and structural development to the final finish.
The base is gilded with 23-karat Italian light gold, and the modules form an architecture of light, proportion and sculptural function.

Kalmars does more than organize space.
It defines it ceremonially.

A fully authored piece - created in the atelier, in the spirit of contemporary collectible design.

An architectural setting for a fountain pen, a ballpoint pen, and a smartphone. Stable, proportional, supported by distinctive hand-crafted legs.
The high-gloss striped flint introduces natural rhythm and material depth.

Presented in the signature Kostylo Atelier box - deep green, lined with white satin, fitted with hand-made gilded hinges and clasps.
Opening the box becomes a ritual of unveiling.
