Agnieszka Czarnecka, the founder of the gallery - an art academy graduate herself, established CZARNA in 2004 and opened the exhibition space on a 2nd floor of an old tenement house in 2006. CZARNA has recently changed its location and moved to the very heart of Warsaw, introducing a new experimental formula which combines an exhibition space with a bistro, creating a new quality of a venue. A represents following artists: The Chapuisat Brothers, Teresa Gierzyńska, Magdalena Karpińska, Hege Lønne, Tomasz Mróz, Joanna Pawlik, Sławomir Pawszak, Sławomir Rumiak, Jadwiga Sawicka and Monika Wiechowska. The gallery promotes its artists by organizing shows and special events, searching for grants and residency programs; it also takes care of promoting polish artist abroad by taking part in art fairs, such as VIENNAFAIR, VOLTA in Basel, New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) Art Fair in Miami, Paris Photo or Art Brussels. CZARNA shows not only its own artists, but also collaborates with independent curators, artists and galleries from Poland and abroad. The idea behind the new CZARNA space is to reduce the distance between art and the viewers, thus making it more accessible. aims to create a community of people, for whom art is an everyday experience. The bar section also an art object itself, as it was designed by Olaf Brzeski, who decided to leave it in a permanently unfinished state. The project was inspired by Manet’s The Balcony and Tati’s Playtime. Visible 24/7 from the outside, the ground floor exhibition space, can be easily separated or integrated within the rest of the space depending on a show, thanks to a movable wall. The basement level contains a spacious exhibition room and the gallery office with a space designed to present artworks to the collectors. All these actions are aimed at broadening and strengthening the circuit of culture and art market in Poland.
