"Between Dreams and Desires", diptych 2*30*40 cm on canvas 3D by agata oszmałek
There are paintings one simply looks at. And there are those one returns to in thought — like places and moments that never truly happened, yet somehow remain intimately familiar. Between Dreams and Desires exists precisely within that space: between memory and imagination, between silence and light.
Agata Oszmałek constructs the composition through an intuitive, almost meditative engagement with painterly matter. Across the surface of the canvases, traces of palette knife work, wiping, layering, and scraping remain visible, allowing the painting to preserve both the energy of gesture and the memory of its own creation. Slender, luminous sails emerge from blurred passages of blue, lavender, and vibrant pink like distant vessels appearing at the threshold between dream and recollection.
The sails are not merely a landscape motif here. They become symbols of movement, longing, and journeys toward places that cannot be found on any map. Their forms are drawn directly out of the materiality of the painting itself — dense whites dragged across wet layers create textures reminiscent of light reflected on water and canvas caught by the wind. As a result, the composition vibrates with a subtle tension between delicacy and structure.
Oszmałek intentionally leaves space for ambiguity. Up close, the work reveals the rawness of texture, the marks of the artist’s tools, and the physical presence of paint; from a distance, it transforms into an almost immaterial emotional landscape. The diptych functions as two fragments of the same story — two moments of silence captured in color and light.
Between Dreams and Desires is a story about returning — to emotions, intuitions, and images carried not in memory, but in the heart.
