“And Afterwards” is a short film inspired by a triptych of poems by Federico García Lorca: El paso de la siguiriya, Después de pasar, and Y después. Drawing on the profound sorrow of cante jondo, the deep song of flamenco, the film explores universal questions of existence — our place in the world, the meaning of life, and our relationship with death.
Flamenco and contemporary dance, the dramatic pulse of siguiriya, and textile art converge within the evocative setting of a 19th-century historic space. At the intersection of movement, poetry, material, and time, the film searches for a non-verbal language — a poetic expression of the inexpressible.
Inspired by Lorca’s symbolism and grounded in the physical presence of the body, “And Afterwards” evokes the fascinating and sometimes brutal encounter with life, where beauty and sorrow, movement and stillness, presence and absence meet.
