[EN] Time to meet the next AURORA finalist – Weronika Makowskx!

Weronika Makowskx is a theatre director, playwright and dramaturg, and the author of "Co**se of a Newborn".

They have worked with leading theatre stages in Poland, such as: TR Warszawa, the Jan Kochanowski Theatre in Opole, the Wrocław Contemporary Theatre, the Stefan Żeromski Theatre in Kielce, the Kazimierz Dejmek New Theatre in Łódź, and the Barakah Theatre in Kraków.

The performances they have created have been presented at international and national festivals, including the Divine Comedy Festival ("Inferno", "Trzask Prask"), the After Generation Showcase Warsaw ("sweet&romantic", "Trzask Prask"), the New Epiphanies Festival ("Inferno"), and the Łódź of Four Cultures Festival ("Ludowa Historia Polski" / "A People's History of Poland"). They are a laureate of the TR Warszawa Debut Award and the Opole Modelatornia Stage Award, as well as a semi-finalist for the Gdynia Drama Award.

From the very beginning, their artistic path has been tied to the exploration of socially engaged and interventionist themes. In early 2024, they directed a reading of the "Letters of Children from the Gaza Strip" in collaboration with the Palestinian ASHTAR Theatre and TR Warszawa.

🎭 Weronika Makowskx (ur. 1998) to reżyserka, dramatopisarka i dramaturżka, autorka sztuki „Truchło noworodka".

Współpracowała z czołowymi scenami teatralnymi w Polsce takimi jak: TR Warszawa, Teatr im. Kochanowskiego w Opolu, Wrocławski Teatr Współczesny, Teatr im. Stefana Żeromskiego w Kielcach, Teatr Nowy im. Kazimierza Dejmka w Łodzi, Teatr Barakah w Krakowie.

Spektakle, które tworzyła prezentowane były na międzynarodowych i ogólnopolskich festiwalach m.in. Boska Komedia („Inferno”, „Trzask Prask”), After Generation Showcase Warszaw („sweet&romantic”, „Trzask Prask”), Festiwal Nowe Epifanie („Inferno”), Łódź Czterech Kultur („Ludowa Historia Polski”). Laureatka Nagrody Debiut TR Warszawa, laureatka Nagrody Opolskiej Sceny Modelatornia oraz półfinalistka Gdyńskiej Nagrody Dramaturgicznej.

Jej droga artystyczna od początku wiąże się z poszukiwaniem tematów społecznie zaangażowanych, interwencyjnych. Na początku 2024 roku reżyserowała czytanie „Listów Dzieci ze Strefy Gazy” we współpracy z palestyńskim Teatrem Ashtar i TR Warszawa.

[EN] 🩷 Who are the writers behind the plays that have reached this year’s AURORA final? It’s time to meet the finalists of the City of Bydgoszcz Drama Award, whose work we’ll discover this autumn during the 25th Prapremier Festival!

🎭 First, meet Martta Mercedes Jylhä – a Finnish playwright and dramaturg, and the author of "Suburban angels".

Born in 1995, Martta Mercedes Jylhä’s work often explores narratives of the feminine body, as well as the intoxicating experiences of capitalism and the material hubris of consumer culture. She holds a Master’s degree in Dramaturgy and Playwriting from the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll introduce you to this year’s AURORA finalists. Get to know them with us! 🏆

Martta Mercedes Jylhä (ur. 1995) w swojej twórczości często podejmuje temat kobiecego ciała, a także odurzających doświadczeń kapitalizmu i materialnej pychy kultury konsumpcyjnej. Ukończyła studia magisterskie z dramaturgii i dramatopisarstwa w Akademii Teatralnej Uniwersytetu Sztuk w Helsinkach.

Przed nami seria spotkań z tegorocznymi finalistkami i finalistami AURORY. Poznajcie ich razem z nami! 🏆

[EN] 💗 The Prapremiery Festival has welcomed theatre from all over the world – but how many countries is that? 🌍👀

With just 9 weeks to go until our anniversary edition, let's take a look at the Festival's international history. 🗺️

So far, we've welcomed 27 international productions from 15 countries, including 11 co-productions.

Germany leads the way with 4 productions, followed by Romania with 3. Greece, the Netherlands and Lithuania have each brought 2 productions to the Festival.

Our international guests have come from Germany, Belarus, Moldova, Greece, Czechia, Croatia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Iran, Lithuania, Latvia, Denmark, Romania, Belgium and Slovenia.

Over the years, Prapremiery Festival has brought theatre from all these different parts of the world to Bydgoszcz. ✨

[PL] 💗 Festiwal Prapremier gościł już teatry z wielu zakątków świata – ale z ilu krajów? 🌍👀

Do naszej jubileuszowej edycji zostało już tylko 9 tygodni, więc tym razem zaglądamy do międzynarodowej historii Festiwalu. 🗺️

Do tej pory gościliśmy 27 zagranicznych produkcji z 15 krajów, w tym 11 koprodukcji.

Najwięcej spektakli przyjechało do nas z Niemiec – aż 4. Na drugim miejscu jest Rumunia z 3 spektaklami, a po 2 produkcje zaprezentowały Grecja, Holandia i Litwa.

Nasi zagraniczni goście przyjeżdżali do nas z Niemiec, Białorusi, Mołdawii, Grecji, Czech, Chorwacji, Holandii, Brazylii, Iranu, Litwy, Łotwy, Danii, Rumunii, Belgii i Słowenii.

Przez lata Prapremiery sprowadzały do Bydgoszczy teatry z naprawdę różnych stron świata. ✨

[EN] 💗 Can you guess how many Polish productions have been presented at the Prapremiery Festival so far? 👀

With only 10 weeks to go until our anniversary edition, it's time for another Festival fun fact!

The answer is... 231! 🇵🇱✨

Over the past 25 editions, the Festival has welcomed 231 Polish productions, each bringing a new story, a new perspective, and a new theatrical experience to Bydgoszcz.

Do naszej jubileuszowej edycji zostało już tylko 10 tygodni, więc czas na kolejną festiwalową ciekawostkę!

With only 11 weeks to go until our anniversary edition, here's another Festival fun fact!

From 2007 to 2014, one unexpected element took centre stage — bedsheets.

For eight consecutive editions, they became the signature motif of the Festival's visual identity, proving that even the simplest everyday object can tell a theatrical story. ✨

Do naszej jubileuszowej edycji zostało już tylko 11 tygodni, więc przychodzimy z kolejną festiwalową ciekawostką!

W latach 2007–2014 główną rolę w identyfikacji wizualnej Festiwalu grały... prześcieradła.

Przez osiem kolejnych edycji stały się znakiem rozpoznawczym Prapremier, udowadniając, że nawet najbardziej codzienny przedmiot może opowiedzieć teatralną historię. ✨

The honour went to Marek Fiedor for his adaptation and direction of Mother Joan of the Angels, presented by the Jan Kochanowski Theatre in Opole.

It was the very first Grand Prix awarded at the Prapremiery Festival, marking the beginning of the Festival's competition tradition. ✨

Today we're taking you beyond Poland... 🌍👀

The first international production ever presented at the Prapremiery Festival was "Ulrike Maria Stuart", directed by Nicolas Stemann from Thalia Theater Hamburg.

The performance was presented during the 6th edition of the Festival, marking the beginning of the international journey that has since become an important part of Prapremiery. ✨

Dzisiaj wyruszamy poza granice Polski... 🌍👀

Let's go back to where it all began... 👀

The very first performance ever presented at the Prapremiery Festival was Family of a Vampire, directed by Paweł Szkotak 🧛

The production opened the inaugural edition of the Festival in 2002 and went on to receive the Best Director Award for Paweł Szkotak during the very first Prapremiery Festival.

A memorable beginning to a story that has now been unfolding for almost 25 years. ✨

Cofnijmy się do samego początku... 👀

Pierwszym spektaklem zaprezentowanym w historii Festiwalu Prapremier była „Rodzina wampira” w reżyserii Pawła Szkotaka 🧛

Spektakl otworzył inauguracyjną edycję Festiwalu w 2002 roku, a Paweł Szkotak otrzymał za jego reżyserię nagrodę podczas pierwszej edycji Prapremier.

Tak rozpoczęła się historia Festiwalu, którą wspólnie tworzymy już od niemal 25 lat. ✨

Do you know how many years it took for the Festival hosts to win the Grand Prix? 👀

Back when the Prapremiery Festival was held as a competition, the host theatre had to wait 12 years for its first Grand Prix.

It finally happened in 2013, when TPB won for "A Winter's Journey", directed by Maja Kleczewska. The production was a co-production with Teatr Powszechny in Łódź ✨

It was the first time in the Festival’s history that the Grand Prix was awarded to the hosts.

[PL] 💗 15 tygodni i widzimy się na Festiwalu Prapremier!

Wiecie, po ilu latach gospodarze Festiwalu po raz pierwszy zdobyli Grand Prix? 👀

Kiedy Festiwal Prapremier odbywał się jeszcze w formule konkursowej, gospodarze na swoje pierwsze Grand Prix czekali aż 12 lat.

Stało się to dopiero w 2013 roku, gdy TPB zdobyło nagrodę za spektakl „Podróż zimowa” w reżyserii Mai Kleczewskiej. Spektakl powstał w koprodukcji z Teatrem Powszechnym w Łodzi ✨

Był to pierwszy raz w historii Festiwalu, gdy Grand Prix trafiło do gospodarzy.

We love numbers, so here's another Festival fun fact for you. 👀

Did you know that the record for the highest number of international productions was set twice?

In 2015 and 2016, the Prapremiery Festival programme featured 6 international productions each year – the highest number in the Festival's history.

Audiences had the opportunity to discover works by artists from across Europe and beyond, making these editions some of the most international in the Festival's history.

Wiecie, że rekord pod względem liczby spektakli zagranicznych padł aż dwa razy?

W 2015 i 2016 roku program Festiwalu Prapremier obejmował po 6 zagranicznych produkcji – najwięcej w historii FPP!

Dzięki temu publiczność mogła spotkać twórców i twórczynie z wielu krajów Europy i spoza niej, a festiwal jeszcze mocniej stał się przestrzenią międzynarodowej wymiany artystycznej.
