Cavalry Ground has had, and continues to have, many famous residents such as army generals and other senior officials. The family home of Salman Taseer, the former governor of Punjab, remained in Cavalry Ground until his death and the whole area was cordoned off for security reasons in the days following his death. In January 2011, the parents of Supreme Court judge Justice Javid Iqbal, retired DIG Abdul Majeed Malik and his wife, were found murdered at their Cavalry Ground residence. The main boulevard of Cavalry Ground (also known as Jinnah Flyover Road) is a major commercial area with designer outlets, boutiques, banks (including Royal Bank of Scotland), bakeries, electronics shops (including Samsung and Sony Centre) and supermarkets. There are also hotels, law firms and a hospital. Khalid Masjid remains the busiest mosque of the area, where the Islamic scholar, the late Dr. Malik Ghulam Murtaza used to lead the Friday prayers at one time. There are many banks and markets in Cavalry Ground. It is also considered the most expensive area in Lahore. According to the Express Tribune newspaper's report on Raymond Davis, the American Consulate also has a presence in the area and "Between January 21 and 27, Davis also stayed for a day at 59/A, Cavalry Ground, one of the three residences used by the US Consulate in Lahore." In February 2011, there were reports that a new flyover was planned in the area, parallel to Jinnah Flyover. The flyover will start at Mahmood Ali Kasuri Road, 500 metres from Hussain Chowk, and end at Shaukat Hamdani Square at the intersection of Shami Road and Khursheed Alam Road.
