Mizna Zulfiqar is a Lahore-based visual artist and educator. An alumna of the National College of Arts, Pakistan, she has exhibited in group shows and artist-led initiatives across the country.

Rooted in the aesthetics and ethos of Indo-Persian miniature painting, her practice explores the intersections of landscape, ecology, and human presence.

Mizna Zulfiqar’s work reflects on the quiet resilience of native flora observed thriving within the ruptured ecologies of the urban landscape. It marks human habitation while serving as a threshold where nature reclaims space, a reassertion of biodiversity within constructed environments. Through the convergence of built and organic forms, the work meditates on cycles of adaptation and coexistence.

The exhibition explores the ways communities preserve, sustain, and continually renew inherited narratives through ritual, oral traditions, objects, and acts of gathering. Memory is understood not as something fixed but as something that is constantly reinterpreted and reshaped in relation to the present.
The act of lamentation is symbolized through various forms, represented through visual elements such as tombstones, gatherings of mourners, iconography, metal work, the South Asian Azakhana palette, and letter writing in the form of prayer. These works not only represent grief but also preserve and pay homage to the South Asian craftsmanship embedded within these iconographic traditions.
The exhibition becomes an extension of these ritualistic acts, inviting viewers not only to observe but also to witness, reflect, and participate in the ongoing process of remembrance by inviting audience to plant a tree in the name of Imam Hussain.
The significance of these narratives lies not in their permanence but in the communities that continually gather to sustain and connect them to their present realities.
