I Ching I CHING, The Chinese Science Of Changes. It is, therefore, no wonder that people find this book of wisdom obscure.

I CHING is a philosophy dating back to the origins of Chinese civilization that evolved along with Chinese writing and culture. This philosophy of right living is based on the premise that everything in the universe arises out of two forces –Yang and Yin – the Chinese words for creative and receptive energy or masculine and feminine forces. The concept of this philosophy is that if you follow the

way of nature you will find the right way and right time for action in one’s own life. I CHING is the quintessential symbol book of all time, containing layers of symbols, one within the other where symbols are used to describe other symbols. Because the nature of a symbol always points to something beyond itself, the meanings can never be pinned down but are always open to each new reader. Get to know your two sides (light and dark, yang and yin) so that you can manage the conflict purposefully, plan a happy reunion, flow with your natural strengths, and make friends with your other side. The I ching distinguishes between three kinds of changes, Non change, Cyclic change, and Sequent change. Cyclic Change is the recurrent change,we observe in the organicworld. Sequent change indicates the progressive change in phenomena that is produced by causality. In other words, Sequent change would be described in western terms as change operating i a mechanically structured worl of cause and effect. The primary difference between the Western and Eastern view of sequent changes that the I ching uses the sequent change to describe the succession of generation and hence consider it something ORGANIC AND NOT MECHANICAL. Non Change means an extended net of relationship. Such as a son bowed before his father today would himself be a father tomorrow and would receive homage of his son.

The whole universe , in its essential nature , is the movement of energy and information. The only difference between you and a tree the informational and energy contents of your respective bodies. On the material level , both you and the tree are made up of the same recycled elements; mostly Carbon, hydrogen oxygen nitrogen and other elements in minute amounts. You could buy these elements in a hardware store for a couple of dollars. The difference, therefore, between you and the tree is not the carbon , or the hydrogen, or the oxygen. In fact, you and the tree are constantly exchanging your carbon and oxygen with each other. The real difference between the two of you is the energy and information. Your body is not separate from the body from the body of the universe, because at quantum levels there are no well defined edges. You are like a wiggle, a wave, a fluctuation , a convolution, a whirl pool, a localized disturbance in a larger quantum field--- The universe is your extended body .

Ancient I Ching Texts

The origins of the I Ching come to us from pre history, a time when the philosophy of balance between opposites was probably maintained by an oral tradition. The oldest written record we have is from the Chinese Zhou dynasty of about 3,000 years ago. By 672 BC, the I Ching was growing in popularity and, during the Warring States period of 475-221 BC, was assembled into book form.

It survived this violent period of political upheaval to become an important scholarly work during the Han dynasty that followed. The recovered Ma Wang Dui manuscript, buried in 168 BC, pretty much mirrors the content of the texts that we use today with a few changes in the ordering of the hexagrams.
