It's my first purely mechanical sculpture. It runs on weights instead of electricity the way old clocks used to run producing a gentle clicking sound.

A single flutter of a butterfly’s wing may result in chaos.

It is that harmony – in geometry and the balance of mechanics – where true beauty lies for me. Each structure is meticulously calibrated to behave in a certain way. Through my work, I explore چال (the dynamic) – the movement that flows, the shadows that are cast, the effect on the observer, and how it all comes together through math, experimentation, and trial and error.

Process

This was a project I worked on a while back meant as a gift for a friend, inspired by hoberman's scissor mechanisms; thesis was a good teacher. Apparently not good enough though since the mechanics didn't turn out quite the way I wanted but it's still worth a memory.
