🎨✨ THROUGH THE EYES OF ZAYA — COLOUR IN MOTION
Winsor & Newton Galeria Campaign 2025

Meet Zaya Kai, a Brighton-based painter, tattoo artist, singer, and mother — an artist whose world is painted in movement, emotion, and fearless authenticity.

Her art is not defined by perfection, but by presence — a celebration of the female form, the cycles of nature, and the beauty of becoming.

“Tattooing gave me confidence in my drawing… but painting gave me freedom.”

Zaya’s practice bridges two worlds: the precision of tattooing and the spontaneity of paint. Each stroke is instinctive, unplanned, a reflection of her raw inner rhythm. She doesn’t chase structure — she follows emotion.

“I rarely sketch first. I love the spontaneity — the freedom to let the mark decide the direction.”

🌈 THE LANGUAGE OF COLOUR

Her palette is her diary — expressive, instinctive, and alive.
Muted pastels blend with deep, sunlit hues; terracotta flows into ocean blues; pinks and golds breathe across her canvases like memory and feeling entwined.

“I love creating work that’s full of movement and energy. I want people to feel it, not just see it.”

Through her art, Zaya explores femininity, growth, and identity.
Every curve, every botanical line, every layered form is a conversation between emotion and instinct — between who she was, and who she is becoming.

“Painting allows me to be present. It’s not about control — it’s about connection.”

🖌️ HER CREATIVE PARTNER: WINSOR & NEWTON GALERIA ACRYLICS

Behind her fluid expression lies a medium that keeps up with her pace — Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylics.

“I love Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylic for its fluidity and fast-drying time. I’m pretty impatient — I like to move fast, layer quickly, and add more depth within minutes.”

Galeria gives her colour the energy it deserves — bold yet responsive, powerful yet delicate. Its texture allows Zaya to shift effortlessly from thin washes to impasto strokes, capturing both movement and stillness in a single gesture.

“The colours are so vibrant and smooth — they feel alive. I can go from a soft gradient to a textured layer without losing control.”

For her, Galeria isn’t just paint — it’s rhythm, it’s trust, it’s the medium that lets emotion flow as fast as the heart beats.

🌿 THE ESSENCE OF ZAYA

Zaya’s art is as multifaceted as she is — a woman, a creator, a mother, a storyteller. Each painting carries her essence: confidence, tenderness, and freedom in coexistence.

“Motherhood changed the way I see the body — it’s strong, soft, evolving. My art celebrates that transformation.”

Her studio hums with layers of colour and music; her canvases pulse with rhythm and texture. Her art doesn’t just fill a space — it breathes within it.

💫 ART WITHOUT FEAR. CREATION WITHOUT LIMIT.

Through the Campaign 2025, we celebrate artists like Zaya — who paint not to perfect, but to express; who remind us that art is not about rules, but release.

To every artist chasing a feeling, a thought, or a whisper of light — let Galeria be your companion.
Fast-drying, vibrant, and intuitive — it’s paint that moves as you do.

🌟 BE BOLD. BE FLUID. BE FREE.
Explore Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylics — and create through your own eyes, your own rhythm, your own truth.

Because every masterpiece begins the same way Zaya does —
with a single, fearless stroke.

🎨💧 “WHY IS CLEAR LIQUID COMING OUT OF MY WATERCOLOR TUBE?”
It’s not a mistake. It’s chemistry — and your paint is still perfect.

You open a fresh tube of watercolour, ready to dive into your next painting, and…
💦 A small drop of clear liquid oozes out before the pigment.
Wait — is something wrong with the paint?
Not at all. Let’s unravel the mystery behind this watery surprise 👇

🔬 IT’S CALLED SYNERESIS
This clear liquid is usually gum arabic and water — both essential parts of your paint.
What’s happening is a natural separation called syneresis, where the binder and pigment gently part ways while sitting in the tube.

🧪 WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?

Storage Time — The longer a tube sits (especially unopened), the more likely it is to separate a little.

Temperature Fluctuations — Paints stored in hot or freezing environments may react to the change.

Formula Richness — Artists’ watercolour contains a high pigment load. That makes it luscious… and a little prone to separation.

🖌️ The good news? It doesn’t affect quality. Just give your tube a little knead and squeeze to remix the paint before use.

🌈 WHAT TO DO WHEN IT HAPPENS?

✅ Gently knead the tube with your fingers to help re-blend the contents.
✅ Squeeze out a little paint, mix it with the clear binder using your brush or palette knife.
✅ Paint as usual — the colour payoff and consistency remain just as rich.

💡 Pro Tip: Store your tubes cap-down in a cool, dry place for more even pigment distribution over time.

🧼 WHEN TO WORRY?
If the liquid smells sour, is sticky like glue, or the paint has hardened in the tube — it might be time to replace it. But if it’s just a bit of clear liquid — you’re good to go!

🖼️✨ SEAL IT WITH CONFIDENCE — HOW TO VARNISH YOUR ACRYLIC MASTERPIECE
Your final brushstroke isn’t the end — it’s the beginning of protection, polish, and permanence.

🎨 You’ve poured your soul into your acrylic painting — now give it the finish it deserves.
Whether it’s a textured abstract, a luminous landscape, or a bold portrait, varnishing is the essential final step to protect, enhance, and preserve your artwork.

But how do you do it right?

Let’s walk through the process — step by step. 👇

🔍 WHY VARNISH YOUR ACRYLIC PAINTINGS?
✔️ Protects against dust, dirt, and UV damage
✔️ Unifies sheen (matte, satin, gloss — your choice!)
✔️ Enhances colour vibrancy and depth
✔️ Adds a professional, archival finish

It’s like framing without a frame — your surface gets sealed, your colours stay vivid, and your legacy stays intact.

🧰 WHAT YOU NEED:
• A fully dried acrylic painting (wait at least 72 hours — longer for thick layers!)
• Winsor & Newton Professional Acrylic Varnish (available in gloss, satin, and matt)
• Varnish brush (wide, flat, and clean)
• Clean, dust-free workspace
• Support: flat and level surface, ideally horizontal
• Optional: gloves, mask, and eye protection for spray varnishes

🔧 STEP-BY-STEP: BRUSH-ON VARNISHING METHOD

🖌️ 1. Choose Your Finish
Decide on gloss (for vibrant colour), matt (for subtlety), or satin (a balance of both).
🧪 Pro Tip: Test on a scrap surface to preview the result.

🧼 2. Clean Your Painting
Gently dust the surface with a lint-free cloth.
No moisture. No oils. Just clean, dry art.

⏳ 3. Prep Your Space
Work in a dust-free, well-ventilated area with stable room temperature. Lay your painting flat.

🖋️ 4. Apply the Varnish
Dip your clean, soft brush into the varnish and apply in long, even strokes.
Work in one direction. Avoid overbrushing.

💨 5. Let it Dry
Allow to dry flat and untouched for at least 24 hours.
Want extra protection? Add a second coat at 24-hour intervals — brushing in the opposite direction.

🌬️ FOR SPRAY VARNISH USERS:
• Shake well before use
• Spray at 30–45 cm distance in thin, even passes
• Use a mask, gloves, and proper ventilation
• Allow each layer to dry fully before applying another

🎯 TIPS FOR SUCCESS:
✅ Wait at least 72 hours after painting before varnishing
✅ Use a soft, high-quality brush
✅ Never rush — drying time is critical
✅ Store varnished works away from heat/humidity during cure time
✅ Try satin varnish for a balanced, elegant sheen

🌸🎨 WATERCOLOR BLOOMS — PAINT A FLOWER WITH FLOW & GRACE
“Watercolor is the poetry of pigment. Let each petal unfold with your brush.”

Have you ever wanted to paint delicate flowers that dance on paper?
Here’s your perfect chance — a gentle, step-by-step creative escape into the blooming world of watercolor florals.

Whether you're a beginner or returning to the brush after a break, this guide walks you through painting a beautiful flower, using elegant layering, water control, and transparency.

Ready to paint your own bouquet?

🌼 STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO PAINT A WATERCOLOR FLOWER

🖌️ 1. Gather Your Supplies
• Watercolour paper (cold-pressed or rough for better absorption)
• Winsor & Newton Watercolours
• Round brushes (sizes 2–6 ideal for petals)
• Clean water, tissue, palette
• Pencil for light sketching

📝 Optional: Granulation medium or masking fluid if you're feeling experimental!

🌸 2. Light Sketch of the Flower
Begin by lightly drawing your flower — a few curved petals, soft contours. Think loose and organic, not rigid. Nature isn’t perfect — and that’s what makes it beautiful.

🎯 Tip: Focus on one flower, like a daisy or rose. Simplicity = elegance.

💧 3. Wet-on-Wet Wash
Wet the area of one petal and drop in diluted colour (like Rose Madder Genuine or Permanent Alizarin Crimson).
Let the pigment bloom in water, watching the gradients form naturally.

🖋️ Don’t rush — enjoy the meditative moment of paint dancing in water.

🎨 4. Build in Layers
Once the first wash dries, return with deeper shades to add shadows and depth. Paint the veins of petals, softly curve edges, and let the flower begin to glow.

🌟 Use colors like Opera Rose, Cadmium Red, or even touches of Winsor Violet for contrast.

🍃 5. Add the Stem & Leaves
Use a fine brush to create the stem. Mix greens with a touch of blue or burnt sienna for natural tones. Paint leaves with a flick — letting the edges soften into the background.

🌱 Let one leaf fade away with the wet-on-wet technique for atmospheric effect.

✨ 6. Final Details & Touches
Add texture with dry brush strokes. Use minimal lines to suggest form. Let parts of the flower be defined, while others dissolve into light — that’s the magic of watercolor.

We’d love to see your version of this floral beauty!

Want to add mystery and movement to your watercolour work?
Unlock magical textures with a technique that combines two powerhouses:
🧂 Salt and 🌊 Granulation Medium.

It’s not just about effect — it’s about atmosphere, depth, and pure visual poetry.

🌫️ What is Granulation Medium?
It’s a liquid additive that exaggerates the natural granulating effect of certain watercolours — separating pigments and creating textured, organic blooms.

When paired with salt, you get stunning, crystalline patterns layered with rich pigment pockets. It’s like painting with geology and snowfall at once.

🖌️ HOW TO USE IT — STEP BY STEP

🔹 1. Choose Your Colours
Opt for naturally granulating pigments like French Ultramarine, Cobalt Blue, or Burnt Sienna for best results.

🔹 2. Mix in the Medium
In your palette, mix a few drops of Granulation Medium into your chosen watercolour. Adjust the ratio depending on how dramatic you want the granulation.

🔹 3. Apply Generously
Paint freely onto cold-pressed or rough watercolour paper — the texture will help highlight the effect.

🔹 4. While Wet, Sprinkle Salt
Sprinkle coarse or fine salt while the wash is still shiny-wet. Watch as the salt crystals pull and scatter the pigment, creating starburst textures.

🔹 5. Let It Dry Completely
Step away — resist touching it while drying. This part is pure alchemy.

🔹 6. Brush Away the Salt
Once fully dry, gently brush off the salt to reveal beautiful, crystallized patterns and sedimented pigments underneath.

💡 TIPS FOR STUNNING RESULTS
• Try layering multiple washes over dried salt textures
• Use masking fluid to preserve bright areas beneath the effect
• Combine with lifting techniques for added depth

🌌 Think galaxies, desert sands, stormy skies — this isn’t just watercolour, it’s a sensory experience.

🎨✨ PERFECTIONISM ISN’T ART — EXPRESSION IS.
Let go. Create more. Trust your voice.

So many artists get stuck in the loop of "fixing" instead of finishing.
We obsess over details.
We restart sketches.
We compare, erase, and hesitate — again and again.

The truth? Perfectionism kills creativity.

Here are 5 real ways to break free and reconnect with your art — no pressure, no judgment, just the joy of creating.

🌿 1. Progress Over Perfection
Forget flawless. Focus on done.
Every sketch, every messy layer, every "failed" piece is a step forward.
You’re not chasing a masterpiece. You’re building momentum.

🧠 2. Shift Your Mindset
Not everything you make needs to be “good.”
Art is exploration, not ex*****on. Think: What can I learn from this?
Not: Is this perfect enough to post?

🎨 3. Play Without Purpose
Try a medium you’re not “good” at. Paint with your non-dominant hand. Doodle in the margins.
Give yourself space to play — that’s where magic hides.

🔁 4. Set Creative Time Limits
Instead of spending 6 hours "perfecting" a piece, give yourself 30 minutes.
Short bursts keep your energy fresh and reduce the inner critic’s voice.

💬 5. Talk Kindly to Yourself
Would you speak to a fellow artist the way you speak to yourself?
Encourage. Forgive. Celebrate.
You’re allowed to grow slowly — beautifully.

🎯 Your art doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful.
It just has to be honest.

🖌️ Keep creating. Keep showing up. That’s what makes you an artist.

🔥❤️ CADMIUM RED — The Colour of Power, Passion & Presence
A red that doesn’t just sit on the palette — it leads it.

In the world of art, few hues command the canvas like Cadmium Red.
Intense. Energetic. Unapologetically bold.

This is the red of emotion in motion. Of sunsets that burn, of skin that blushes, of revolutions painted in pure feeling.

Born in the early 1900s from scientific discovery, Cadmium Red quickly replaced its historical counterparts — not just for its vivid warmth, but for its strength, permanence, and confidence.

🎨 Why artists are loyal to Cadmium Red:
— Opaque and full-bodied: every stroke makes a statement
— Exceptionally lightfast: your reds stay bold for generations
— Mixes into glowing oranges, subtle skin tones, and smoky shadows
— Carries warmth without sacrificing intensity

Used by greats like Henri Matisse, Cadmium Red became more than a pigment — it became a creative weapon.

🧠 It’s the color of:
✔️ Energy
✔️ Courage
✔️ Conflict
✔️ Love
✔️ Momentum

From the flick of a flamenco dancer’s skirt to the heat in a lover’s glance, Cadmium Red turns emotion into art.

🖌️ For those who don’t paint to be subtle.
For those who let color speak volumes.
This is Cadmium Red — unfiltered, unmatched, unforgettable.

💙🌌 PRUSSIAN BLUE — A Revolution in a Tube.
The first modern pigment. The infinite hue of depth, mystery, and discovery.

There are colors we use… and colors we feel.
Prussian Blue is both — a pigment that changed history and continues to stir the imagination of artists worldwide.

Discovered accidentally in the early 1700s, this was the first synthetic pigment to enter the artist’s palette — breaking centuries of dependence on rare, expensive natural blues.

🧪 Born from chemistry.
🎨 Raised by the masters.
💭 Loved for its powerful mood, velvety tone, and limitless depth.

🔹 What makes Prussian Blue iconic?

• Rich, dark, slightly green-toned blue — dramatic yet elegant
• Exceptional tinting strength and granulation
• Ideal for night skies, deep waters, underpaintings, shadows, and emotional atmosphere
• Unmatched transparency when diluted — yet bold and intense at full strength
• Beloved by artists like Hokusai, Van Gogh, and Picasso

It’s a hue that’s grounded, yet infinite.
Capable of evoking both calm and tension — like a storm about to break or the stillness of a midnight sea.

With just one pigment, you can paint entire worlds.
From the serene to the surreal.
From tradition to abstraction.

🖌️ Prussian Blue isn’t just a color — it’s a mood. A memory. A movement.

Dive in. Explore the blue that reshaped the world of color.
And never look at your palette the same way again.

Not all ink tells a story.
But cuttlefish ink — rich, mysterious, and steeped in history — has been whispering through centuries of creativity.

Known as Sepia, this dark, smoky tone was once extracted directly from the cuttlefish’s natural defense — a cloud of beauty born from survival. Over time, it evolved into an essential tool of artists, scientists, writers, and explorers alike.

🎨 Why Sepia?
• Deep, velvety brown-black — warm, emotional, nostalgic
• Timeless elegance for ink washes, sketches, and monochromatic studies
• Associated with old maps, Renaissance drawings, and the early days of scientific illustration
• Evokes a softness that pure black ink never quite captures

🧠 A pigment born of nature. Refined by history. Reimagined by art.

Today, sepia isn’t harvested from animals — it’s thoughtfully recreated using modern, cruelty-free methods. But the spirit remains the same: a bridge between nature and imagination.

It’s the ink of thinkers and dreamers, of artists who understand that sometimes the softest tones speak the loudest truths.

🖋️ Use it to shade. To suggest. To simplify.
Let it wash across the page like memory itself — delicate, deliberate, and eternal.

🖤 For those who appreciate the art of ink beyond the line.
For those who create with care and curiosity.

💜✨ WINSOR VIOLET — The Soul of Shadow. The Whisper of Royalty. The Pulse of Passion.
A color that lingers. A pigment that speaks.

Not all purples are created equal.
Winsor Violet (Dioxazine) is bold, mysterious, and wildly expressive — the kind of color that doesn't just enhance your palette... it transforms it.

🎨 Why artists adore Winsor Violet
• Unmatched depth — rich, intense, and luxuriously dark
• High tinting strength — a little goes a long, magical way
• Transparent yet commanding — perfect for shadows, glazes, and delicate layering
• Blends into moody greys, romantic lilacs, or vivid floral tones depending on your vision

This is not just a pigment.
It’s an atmosphere. A mood. A masterstroke of emotion bottled in color.

From the deepest stormclouds to the softest velvet petals, Winsor Violet is the silent narrator of dramatic scenes and ethereal light. It brings gravity to portraits, elegance to landscapes, and poetry to every brushstroke.

💡 Whether you're a watercolorist chasing fluid elegance, or an acrylic painter seeking richness and drama — this shade adapts, responds, and elevates. Every time.

So go ahead — dip your brush in the unknown.
Let violet take the lead.

🖌️ For those who don’t just paint — but create stories with every hue.
