A Bitter Reality for the Saraiki Wasaib
It is a bitter reality that, in the eyes of the government, the people of Upper Punjab and the corridors of power in Lahore seem to be given greater importance than the people of the Saraiki Wasaib.
On August 10, a rickshaw carrying around 26 people fell into the Muzaffargarh Canal in Kot Addu. Tragically, 17 people including innocent children, women, and young men drowned.
One of the major reasons behind this tragic incident was the absence of any barrier, railing, or proper safety measures along the canal.
The Saraiki Wasaib is equally a part of Pakistan. Yet, hundreds of such tragedies occur across the Wasaib, often without even making it to the mainstream news. Our people are left to suffer and die in silence.
The murder of a businessman in Karachi has remained a major headline across mainstream media for the past few days. Similarly, whenever a murder or tragedy occurs in Upper Punjab, the media raises its voice and demands answers.
But the innocentpeople of my Saraiki Wasaib often lose their lives in silence, as though their lives matter less.
Wasaib Students Federation stands equally with the affected families and the innocent people of the Saraiki Wasaib in this hour of grief.
Wasaib Students Federation respectfully urges the government to immediately mobilize rescue and relief teams to search for the children who drowned and those who are still missing, and to ensure proper assistance and support for the affected families.
This is the voice of the sons of the Wasaib.
