This is the true story of Beth Mariscal, a woman who came from a very humble beginning in the mountains of Sitio Kiantay.
When she was a child, she used to walk barefoot to school. The town center of Surallah, where they could buy slippers or sandals, was too far. The roads were muddy and unpaved. Sometimes, they had to hitch a ride on a passing RIO just to get to the market.
Beth always dreamed of becoming a teacher. She wanted to teach the children in her community. She even shared that her school back then was multi-grade. Grades 1 to 6 were all in the same classroom, learning side by side.
Growing up in that kind of life taught her to work hard. She became determined to finish her studies. And despite everything, she made it. One thing that really stands out about Beth is how naturally skilled she is at horseback riding. Among all the women I’ve filmed on horseback, she’s the most graceful and confident.
This video isn’t just about tourism. It’s Beth’s story. And in many ways, it reflects the story of Surallah. A place that started quietly, almost unnoticed. But just like Beth, it’s full of strength, beauty, and potential. Surallah is a rising star—with heart, with brain, and with soul.
