L: May the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of the Father, and the guidance of the Holy
Spirit be with us all.
All: Now and forever.
Opening Hymn: " The Great St. Augustine"
Act of Contrition
L: Lord, Jesus Christ, true God and true Man, my Creator and my King, I am truly sorry for my sins. You are my Lord and I love You above all things. I firmly resolve not to offend You again and to confess all my sins to a priest. I firmly believe that You will absolve me from all my sins for isn't it that You suffered, died on the Cross and rose back to life everlasting for me?
DAILY PRAYER
All: Before You, Oh Most Almighty Lord, one triune God, I humble myself and pray that every desire, thought, act and word of mine, especially within these nine days of the Novena, be for Your greater glory and honor. May my unworthy acts and deeds be united with those of Your Son Jesus, my Saviour whom I beg, through the patronage of St. Augustine, to forgive my sins and drive all my worldly desires. Since it was you, my most holy father, St. Augustine, who explained to the humanity the deepest secrets of the Holy Trinity in the fifteen volumes of books that you wrote and since in your hearts dwells the most Holy Trinity, your prayers surely are most favored by God. I therefore beg you to ask from our Lord the grace s that I need, most especially the grace to live according to His will. Most respected father, while on earth, you were the protector and the defender of the Faith and of the Church. Now that you are in heaven, may you continue to guide us and to seek from God that the one true Faith may reign throughout the world. May all Christians be one in giving praise and glory to God who lives and reigns, forever and ever, Amen.
PSALM 15
Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?
Who may live on your holy mountain?
The one whose walk is blameless,
who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from their heart;
whose tongue utters no slander,
who does no wrong to a neighbor,
and casts no slur on others;
who despises a vile person
but honors those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath even when it hurts,
and does not change their mind;
who lends money to the poor without interest;
who does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
Whoever does these things
will never be shaken.
Psalm 112
Praise the LORD.
Blessed are those who fear the LORD,
who find great delight in his commands.
Their children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in their houses,
and their righteousness endures forever.
Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.
Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice.
Surely the righteous will never be shaken;
they will be remembered forever.
They will have no fear of bad news;
their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear;
in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor,
their righteousness endures forever;
their horn[c] will be lifted high in honor.
The wicked will see and be vexed,
they will gnash their teeth and waste away;
the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.
PRAYER FOR THE FOURTH DAY
O Jesus, meek and humble of heart, You who shines far brighter than the sun, You shed all Your greatness and became man like us in all ways, except sins. You blessed our beloved St. Augustine with the courage to shun all thoseSt worldly praises and recognition. By Your mercwy and grace, You led St. Augustine to humble himself, change from his old, sinful ways and even confessing to the world in a book of his sinfulness, to the amazement of all. Make me humble, too, Oh God so that I may confess all my sins and shortcomings, and deny myself of all worldly desires, all for the love of You.
To you, great patron and Doctor of the Church, pray that our Lord and God may grant me the virtue of humility and the grace that I ask for from this Novena. I believe that if I can humble myself just as you did, our God will grant me the glory of heaven that I so desire. Amen.
