Tahigami: Recursions by DATU ARELLANO - July 21 to August 2, 2026

Look closely enough at anything and you will find it folding back
into itself: the vein branching in a leaf, an echo answering an echo, a
shape remembering the shape that made it. This exhibition began
with a small, quiet instruction: go back. Take the old ideas, still
warm, and carry them forward until they take a shape I haven't seen
before.

I have learned to let my attention move between scales. Down into
the fine branching of a root system, the lattice of a crystal, a single
mote of dust suspended in light. Then out into the sweep of a
forest, the turn of weather, the architecture of galaxies. Something
happens in that movement, back and forth between the very small
and the very large. A quiet understanding, almost spiritual, that
these are not separate things.

That forward motion is not a metaphor here. It is how the work is
made. In Tahigami, the geometry grows the way a thought grows:
each form is born from the rule that shaped the one before it,
spiraling outward from a single, patient seed. I work with ideas the
same way. Nothing is thrown away. Everything is fed back into the
loop, turned over, folded again, until what comes back is not what
went in.

To innovate, in this practice, is not to escape the past. It is to enter
it again, more deeply each time.
