STANDING FIRM FOR AYUNGIN SHOAL!

Various groups, led by the Filipinos Do Not Yield Movement, marched toward the Chinese Consulate along Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City on Monday, August 31.

The demonstration expressed strong opposition to China’s reported call for the Philippines to remove the BRP Sierra Madre from Ayungin Shoal, while reaffirming calls for the Philippines to maintain its presence in the area.

August 28, 2026.

Magka-isa tayong mga Pilipino at mamulat sa mga mapaglinlang na pakana ng Tsina na nagsusulong sa illegal at pwersahang pag-angkin at pananakop sa West Philippine Sea kung saan ang likas na yaman ng ating bansa ay nakalaan lamang para sa kapakanan ng Pilipinas, ayon sa UNCLOS.

Suportahan natin ang panawagan na dapat pang palakasin ang depensa ng ating bansa, hindi lamang sa salita kundi sa gawa.

Panganiban Reef: A History of Broken Assurances

In 1995, China described the structures on Panganiban (Mischief) Reef as shelters intended for fishermen and civilian use. Years later, those structures evolved into permanent installations, followed by extensive land reclamation that transformed the reef into a fortified artificial island with an airstrip, port facilities, radar systems, and other military infrastructure.

The transformation of Panganiban Reef reminds us that actions speak louder than assurances. For the Philippines, developments in the West Philippine Sea must be assessed not only by what is promised, but by what is actually built and done. Observe the actions. Know the facts. The August 22 2026 resupply mission to BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin Shoal reaffirms the Philippines’ lawful and continuing presence in the West Philippine Sea. Escorted by BRP Malabrigo and BRP Teresa Magbanua, the mission highlights the safety of Filipino personnel, continuity of operations, and professional conduct at sea. De-escalation does not mean surrendering lawful rights, and routine Philippine activities should not be treated as permission-seeking.

A former AFP chief warned that any repeat of the dangerous RoRe incident in Ayungin Shoal—where a Filipino sailor lost a finger—could prompt a stronger response from the Armed Forces of the Philippines against the China Coast Guard.
