GOD Is Never Late

If only I had chosen another partner... If only I could eat healthier... If only I had more money and no debt... Things often don’t turn out as we expect. People don’t act according to our expectations—and sometimes we believe GOD is late or doesn’t even remember us.

In the Bible, we read about Lazarus, who was very ill, and how JESUS apparently delayed His journey to reach His friend. Let’s read John 11:5-6:

Now JESUS loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So when He heard that Lazarus was sick, He stayed where He was two more days.(NIV)
Inevitably, Lazarus dies, and when JESUS finally arrives, those around Him raise a deep question:

But some of them said, “Could not He who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?” (John 11:37).
Certainly, these people had previously witnessed JESUS’ miracles, but the tomb that was before them created questions about GOD'S plan for His friend Lazarus. If we are honest with ourselves, how many times have we felt the same, that GOD does not answer us or that He has delayed in coming to help us?

I specifically remember my first year as director of the CBN office in Costa Rica. There were high expectations; deep challenges; and, personally, many more questions than answers. Have you ever felt like this?

On one occasion, we were inaugurating a humanitarian project with children from one of the most troubled communities in our city. The long-awaited day of the inauguration had finally arrived. We had everything ready and we even had special guests. The same morning as the event, the principal of the local school sent me a message letting me know that she was not going to be able to send the children to the event. At that moment, I raised this question: “What do we do now?”

We were sure GOD had shown us that this school was the place and that He had a plan. So, we prayed with the team and then headed to the school, as planned, on what seemed like an impossible mission. Moved by faith, I proceeded to call the principal of the school and told her, “Principal, I don’t know how you are going to organize them right now, but God told us to bless these children and He is not wrong. Everything is ready for them, and the guests are waiting, so you have 30 minutes before we arrive.” Wow! I still feel the same tremor remembering that conversation. When we arrived at the school, I felt that the tomb was in front of me, and it seemed to be well-closed and without possibilities.

By faith, we started the first part of the program with only the special guests in attendance and without announcing the alleged inconvenience. Suddenly, the children began to arrive, one by one, until they filled the venue in less than 10 minutes. GLORY TO GOD!

What we did not know then is that GOD was training us for what would later become the Orphan’s Promise projects, which would be entrusted to us. JESUS always has a plan, and He is never late. There is no grave, circumstance or limitation that can prevent Him from fulfilling His purpose for our lives, only our own doubt about His Word and the promises He has given to us.

Would you like to take a few minutes to meditate on the power and greatness of GOD? You will surely remember how He has always arrived on time, how His promises have never failed—and that, despite the situation in which you find yourself, this will not be the exception.

I invite you to pray with me: “GOD, today I surrender my present situation and my life to You. Despite what I see in front of me and how I feel, I have decided to trust You and Your perfect timing in my life. In The Name of JESUS, I pray this. Amen.”

A Warning and an Instruction
Brenda Williams

Soon after moving, I learned some unexpected inconveniences of living in the country. Without warning, we can have a blackout and no electricity. So now I keep candles, flashlights, and lanterns with extra batteries on hand. If I have light, I can survive. I am so grateful to have been born in this era, as I do not know how I would have made it in the 1800s!

It is wonderful how The LORD uses events of our daily lives to teach us Scriptural truth. The 12th chapter of Luke carries both a warning and an instruction:

“Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.” (v.35 NASB1995)
“For the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.” (v. 40)

Lamps must have oil to provide light. I believe that the lamps represent us, and the oil represents our relationship with The LORD. Our level of intimacy with Him produces either an abundance of oil with a high flame or a low flame, both of which identify how much of CHRIST is really living in us.

In Matthew 25, The LORD tells a parable of 10 virgins (believers). Five were prepared and ready and five were not. The lives of those who carried extra oil proved their readiness through their close relationship with The LORD. It was their life's priority and enabled them to be prepared for the bridegroom's coming.

When my cousin got married, for months she made meticulous preparations, being certain everything needed was perfectly in place when the moment came to say “Yes” to her bridegroom.

In like manner, the return of CHRIST for His bride is imminent, and it is soon. While there is much darkness on the earth, as prophesied, it is the church’s finest hour to draw ever nearer to Him, secure our commitment, and shine His light.

In Luke 18:8 JESUS asked, “When The Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

As I read this, I began to examine my own faith. What does The LORD see in my life and the lives of His church? Does He see godly, faith-filled lives? A committed people choosing to make themselves ready for His return? From His first day of ministry, JESUS was completely committed to His FATHER and in His death, He was committed to us. When He comes again, He is looking for people committed to loving Him and living for Him with all their heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37).

The question that comes to mind is how do we get ready? How can we have this oil and this light? 1 John 1:7 gives us a key:

“Walk in the light as He Himself is in the light.” James 4:8 tells us to “Draw near to GOD and He will draw near to you.”

Romans 12:2 says we are to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Knowing The LORD and bearing the fullness of His light is the process that makes us ready. Let’s all renew our commitment to be people of faith, people of prayer, with His Word written on our hearts and minds so that He increases in us, and we shine with His likeness, for this is the will of GOD.

The LORD knows us through and through. Any area where we fall short of His will, if we ask, He will help us become strong in Him to prepare for His coming. I am confident in Philippians 1:6:

“He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of CHRIST JESUS.”

God Gets First Place
ILIAMARI MENDOZA-GOMEZ

The year was 2014. I had a great job, and everything was going well in my life. And because I was still getting to know GOD, I trusted most people who were good to me. I figured that if I didn’t have a reason to mistrust someone, then they were okay. Until the day I was demoted from my position. I couldn’t understand what had happened or why, especially when I had been “employee of the month” twice in a row.

But I remember the store manager calling me into his office and telling me I was being demoted because I was not doing my job. I was so upset that I told him he would be better off firing me and be done with it. To my surprise, his reply was, “You are too good of an employee for me to fire you.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Noticing that I was upset, he immediately told me I could take the day off, or even a couple of days, and not to worry about it, that I would be paid.

I was angry, hurt, and confused. But instead of following my emotions, I chose to follow a challenge my pastor had given us: to read the Bible and wait for GOD to speak. So, in the days following my demotion, I spent an hour or two reading, worshiping, and waiting to hear from GOD in the employees’ parking lot before work. Not too long after I started doing this, GOD told me to be quiet and wait on Him, to not be angry, and that soon those who had wronged me would no longer be there (Psalm 37:7-9). Shortly after all this took place, GOD moved me to a different job. And in the following years, He moved me again to two other jobs, and each one was always better than the last.

To make a long story short, that was the first time I listened and followed GOD'S instruction. This set the way I wanted to live my life thereafter—giving GOD first place in my life, listening to His direction, being obedient, and trusting that He would always take care of me.

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by GOD. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:6 NIV)

Making GOD the center of our lives and being obedient to His will brings blessings, including protection from those who want to harm you.

The men said, “This is the day The LORD spoke of when He said to you, ‘I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.’” Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul’s robe (1 Samuel 24:4).

He will supply all your needs:

And my GOD will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in CHRIST JESUS (Philippians 4:19).

Since that day, my relationship with GOD has grown immensely. I depend on Him for everything, and I listen for His direction. Even when I don’t understand what He is doing, I obey Him. Today, I can honestly say that I walk from glory to glory—and that many have been the blessings I’ve received from our Heavenly Father. He’s got me working for His kingdom and living the abundant life that He’s promised to all who receive JESUS CHRIST as their savior. I have peace, I feel loved, I am protected, and have no worries for the future—because I have GOD by my side.

So, today, I invite you to trust GOD with everything you have. Seek Him and listen for His direction. Obey Him even if you don’t understand. Because nobody knows you better than your Creator. And if you don’t know JESUS yet, ask Him to come into your life now. Then, experience the amazing love He has for you!

Prayer is an opportunity to worship The LORD, to come and sit in His presence and be still before Him. Prayer was never intended to be our last resort. Persistent, Powerful Prayer
Jessica Teed

The first time I saw the power of prayer firsthand, I was at church one evening helping to prepare for an upcoming ladies conference with women from my church. Suddenly, one of them stopped and asked us to pray for her husband, who was serving in Iraq at the time. Sensing the urgency, we all stopped what we were doing and got on our knees in intercession for her husband. Once we finished praying, we continued to prepare the sanctuary—completely unaware of what had happened on the other side of the world.

A couple days later, we found out… Three hours before we stopped to pray, her husband, along with a caravan of troops, had come across a landmine. Usually, this area was under heavy attack, and they would have to travel through the area quickly, but this time it was eerily quiet. They sat on the road for a long time waiting for the mine to be cleared. It was at that very same moment that his wife felt we needed to stop and pray for her husband. The landmine had been cleared, but he and his caravan were ambushed by opposing forces. They launched a rocket at her husband and the caravan of troops, there was a small arms fire, and then, suddenly, nothing. What could have been a very deadly encounter ended without much of a battle—because of prayers from the other side of the world.

That single moment solidified to me the power of prayer. I tear up thinking about how the LORD intervened and protected her husband and those troops in the very same moment we stopped to pray. This is just one of the examples I have seen in my own life of James 5:13-16 in action.

Prayer changes things. It changes people. It changes the atmosphere. Prayer is not just about letting our requests be known or seeking GOD for what He can do for us. Prayer is an opportunity to worship the LORD, to come and sit in His presence and be still before Him. Prayer was never intended to be our last resort. It was always intended to be our first line of defense. It is a powerful tool that grants us access to the Creator of the Universe, Who loves us very much and cares about our well-being.

JESUS taught the disciples how to pray, and He taught them the importance of persistent prayer. He showed them that it was important to keep praying for their needs no matter what was going on around them or what they were seeing with their natural eyes.

“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Luke 11:9-10, NLT)

Our GOD is a loving FATHER Who enjoys taking care of His children. He loves it when we come to Him in prayer to ask for what He knows we need. Luke 11 tells us that if we come to the LORD asking Him for bread, He will not give us a stone instead. GOD knows what we need before we do, and He will always provide what we need. He may not provide everything we want, but sometimes He does that too. I find comfort in knowing that GOD will take care of all my needs. He loves to give good gifts to His children and that includes you! (See Luke 11:11-13.)

FATHER GOD, You are a loving father who desires to take care of all my needs. And I am thankful I can come to you in prayer no matter what I may need because you care for me. I know that when I draw near to You, You draw near to me. In JESUS’ Name I pray. Amen.

And this same GOD Who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in CHRIST JESUS. (Philippians 4:19)
