Find the correct move :)

This week, there’s no single theme tying the Daily Puzzles together. Instead, we’ve picked seven positions with very different tactical ideas. We start with an active white queen, but Black’s pieces are ready to turn the tables with a forcing sequence.

The Highest Rating in History (2014)

The Elo rating system is the mathematical backbone of competitive chess rankings. In May 2014, reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen reached a live classical rating of 2882—the highest peak ever recorded by a human in the history of the game.

Carlsen’s era has been defined by extreme precision, deep endgame technique, and a universal style that makes him nearly impossible to defeat, solidifying his status as the defining player of the modern era.

Breaking the Gender Barrier (2002)

Judit Polgar, the strongest female chess player in history, refused to play in women-only tournaments, insisting on competing for the absolute world title. At the "Russia vs. The Rest of the World" match in Moscow, she achieved what many thought impossible: she defeated reigning World No. 1 Garry Kasparov in a rapid game.

Polgar's aggressive play forced Kasparov to resign, making her the first woman in history to defeat the reigning absolute World #1 in competitive play.

Machine Defeats Man (1997)

For decades, human intuition reigned supreme over computer calculation. That barrier shattered in New York City when IBM's Deep Blue supercomputer defeated Garry Kasparov—widely considered the greatest player in history—in a six-game match. The watershed moment occurred in Game 6, when Kasparov resigned after just 19 moves. It forced the chess world to accept that artificial intelligence had officially surpassed human capability in the game.
