MILAGROSONG STA. ANANG BANAK

Acrylic on Canvas
2ft x 3ft
(In white floating frame)

Now available at Galerie du Soleil

Rooted in the rich spiritual heritage of Taguig, this abstract work is my tribute to a local miracle passed down through generations.

During a time of famine in the late 16th century, the people of Sta. Ana turned to Sta. Ana in prayer. In response, the once-empty river overflowed with banak (mullet fish), nourishing an entire community and renewing their faith. This miracle lives on every July 26 through the Sta. Anang Banak Festival — a celebration of life, water, and shared hope.

In this three-piece series, I reimagine the miracle through movement, energy, and spiritual geometry.
Painted in acrylic using heavy dry brushing and translucent glazing, angular forms pierce through midnight blue and gold — evoking sacred waters at twilight, that threshold between the seen and the unseen where miracles unfold.

Embedded red and white squares, cascading lines, and golden dots reflect the tension between divine order and human need.
This work is not just about fish — it is about grace arriving exactly when it is needed most.

✨ Milagrosong Sta. Anang Banak is currently available at Galerie du Soleil.

Finding the Calm

Acrylic on canvas
60cm x 60cm

(In white floating frame)

Finding the Calm explores the quiet tension between chaos and stillness. Across the surface, bold hues and layered textures move like an abstract storm—energetic, restless, alive. Yet below the turbulence, a solitary boat drifts gently, grounded and composed.

This contrast reflects a familiar truth: even when everything feels unsettled above, calm can still exist within. The piece invites viewers to sit with the storm, not to escape it, but to recognize the serenity that can be found beneath the noise.

Storm’s Grace
Mixed media (acrylic & pastels on paper)

An earlier work—created some time ago—but never properly shared here.

Storm’s Grace explores resilience and quiet power. At its heart is a lone boat amid tempestuous waves, symbolizing determination in the face of uncertainty. Energetic lines trace the storm’s ferocity, while layered tones and textures reveal an underlying harmony—reminding us that even in chaos, balance exists. Even in turbulence, there is grace.

This piece has since found its home, but it feels right to finally introduce it here.

“Golden Harvest” found a new home! 😊🙏🏽

40 cm x 53 cm

Acrylic on Paper

Golden Harvest" captures the juxtaposition of nature's serene yet unpredictable elements. The golden field, vibrant with textured brushstrokes, represents a rice field ripe for harvest, a symbol of abundance and hope. Above, the turbulent sky swirls with chaotic energy, illustrating nature's untamable forces. Despite the stormy atmosphere, the horizon draws a thin golden line of optimism, promising a fruitful yield. The piece reflects the resilience and faith in the harvest, even under the weight of impending challenges.

Maritess has found a new home.

Grateful that this piece now lives with someone who connected with her story — her humor, her tension, and her quiet familiarity.

Thank you for giving Maritess a space where she can continue watching, listening, and knowing a little too much. 😊

On to the next.

Maritess (Detail & Reflection)

Mixed media: acrylic & pastel on canvas

A closer look at Maritess.

What started as a familiar name slowly became a character — one shaped by observation, expression, and the quiet tension between humor and intrusion. The exaggerated lines, uneven gaze, and layered surface weren’t accidental; they mirror how stories are built, distorted, and passed along.

I’m intentionally pushing character, line, and facial expression here while keeping my language rooted in abstraction. The balance between control and spontaneity is something I’m exploring more deeply in this upcoming series.

Maritess isn’t just someone we know — she’s something we participate in, whether as the watcher, the listener, or the subject.

👉 When you look closer, what stands out to you first: the eyes, the smile, or the gesture?

Maritess
Acrylic & pastel on canvas
60 cm x 60cm

This piece marks the beginning of a new character-led exploration in my practice.

Maritess — a familiar name, a familiar presence.
Always watching. Always listening. Always knowing a little too much.

While my work has often leaned toward abstraction and atmosphere, I’ve been increasingly drawn to narrative, personality, and the quiet chaos of everyday characters we all recognize.

This isn’t a departure, but an expansion — a playful, slightly uncomfortable look at observation, gossip, and the thin line between curiosity and intrusion.

This is the first of an upcoming series.

Curious to know - do you find Maritess as humorous, unsettling...or both?

Grateful that these works have found a home at Taguig General Hospital.

Placing art in shared spaces is a reminder that creativity, care, and community can coexist — offering moments of pause and calm within places of healing.
