Leyte Kalipayan Dance Company

Leyte Kalipayan Dance Company A world-renowned dance group from Leyte. 63 years of performing a kaleidoscope of Philippine culture.

The Leyte Kalipayan Dance Company is a Philippine folkloric dance troupe based in the island of Leyte in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. Its repertoire consists of Philippine traditional dances and music showing a kaleidoscope of Philippine culture through the performing arts. The company was founded in 1960 at the Holy Infant College in Tacloban City in Leyte by Teresita Veloso Pil

. The group was initially called the Leyte Filipiniana Dance Troupe. Sister Mary Canisius, the school directress of Holy Infant College, is also credited as having encouraged the formation of the dance troupe. The troupe first performed on September 1961 at the same college's celebration of its College Day. The success of the dance troupe resulted in invitations for the group to perform in other parts of Tacloban and eventually the rest of the country and the world. Philippine President Diosdado Macapagal designated the dance troupe as Official Cultural Ambassadors of the Philippines to the United States for 1965. The group toured the United States and even appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. In 1975, the group became an independent entity from the Holy Infant College and was reorganized. In 1977, the group received its present name upon the creation of the Leyte Kalipayan Cultural Foundation, which to this day still manages the activities of the dance troupe. The word kalipayan comes from the Waray-Waray language and means joy and happiness. The group has toured in various cities around the world in Asia, Europe, and the Americas

We are deeply honored to have represented our rich cultural heritage during the Cultural Night of the National Youth Literary Festival 2026, held on June 17 at the UP Tacloban Campus.

Our heartfelt thanks to UP Tacloban and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for the opportunity to share our passion through dance and song with the festival delegates and participants.

Moments like these inspire us to continue preserving, promoting, and celebrating the vibrant traditions of Leyte and the Philippines. 💃🎶🇵🇭

Another proud moment for the Leyte Kalipayan Dance Company 🎊💃🕺

We celebrate the remarkable achievements of our alumni, Atty. Lyditt Issa Balais Galban and Atty. Julia Kay Nierras 👏🎉

Lyditt was once part of LKDC as a musician back in the Batch 2000+, while Julia began her journey in the children’s class of Ms. Pil and later blossomed into one of our tall girl dancers. Julia also comes from a family of achievers—she is the younger sister of LKDC alumni Jennifer “Dindin” Nierras, now a nurse based in Scotland, and Dr. Khristine “Tintin” Estrada, a pediatrician at Tacloban ACE Hospital.

Your journey from the dance floor to the field of law inspires us all. We are incredibly proud of how far you’ve come and all that you’ve achieved.

Congratulations, Attorneys! 🎓⚖️
Good luck and God bless on this new chapter of your lives 🙏✨
