Tribute to Freddie Dulay – A Life Devoted to Art

Freddie Dulay, born on April 3, 1959, was a dedicated visual artist and a proud member of Bulan Art Collective and Ugnayang Sining Biswal. His journey in the arts began at the young age of 14, apprenticing under his brother, where his natural talent and quiet determination slowly took form.

By the 1970s, he emerged as a full-pledged artist, actively engaging in the local art scene. In the early 1980s, he joined several art collectives and participated in notable exhibitions, including a significant national art exhibit in 1984. His passion and persistence earned recognition in 1988 when he joined the Metrobank Art Competition and was cited as a promising artist to watch.

In the early 1990s, he worked as a supervisor in an antique company, yet his heart remained with painting. Choosing passion over comfort, he left his job to pursue art more seriously—proof of his unwavering commitment to his craft.

Freddie Dulay lived as a true artist—quietly resilient, deeply devoted, and endlessly inspired. His life and works continue to speak for him, honoring not just his skill but his spirit.

Today, we remember not just an artist, but a soul who painted life with courage. Despite his age, visual limitations, and the hardships of living as a poor artist, he never allowed these struggles to dim his passion. While others saw disability, he saw a reason to create. While life offered him little comfort, he never quit doing art, his dedication serves as an indelible paint that will mark in our memories forever.
