"LUBID"
A rope is made of many strands.
Alone, each strand is vulnerable.
Together, they become strong enough to withstand the force of the sea.
Lubid is a mural that reflects the enduring connection between the Filipino people and the West Philippine Sea. A bond woven through livelihood, culture, identity, resilience, and hope.
At the heart of the piece is the rope itself, stretching across the mural as a symbol of unity. It connects the stories of fishermen who brave the waves, families whose lives are sustained by the sea, the rich marine ecosystems that depend on our stewardship, and the younger generation who will inherit the future of our waters.
The child launching a paper boat serves as a reminder that beyond today’s challenges lies tomorrow’s promise. It symbolizes hope, aspiration, and the responsibility we share in protecting what has been entrusted to us.
The West Philippine Sea is more than a body of water.
It is livelihood.
It is heritage.
It is identity.
It is home.
Through flowing waves, interconnected figures, and a single unbroken rope, Lubid reminds us that our greatest strength has never been found in standing alone, but in standing together.
For like the strands of a rope, the Filipino spirit grows stronger when bound by a shared purpose.
What binds us together is stronger than what seeks to pull us apart.
